Axleback worth it?
Axleback worth it?
Hey Everyone,
I currently have a 08x with Z1 HFC and Megan Ypipe and then stock res and mufflers...
Do you think it is worth replacing the OEM stuff for a performance gain? or is it just a waste, i do not really care about sound... and its already tuned.

My opinion is if you like it quiet... keep it quiet. To my understanding the Cat's are the biggest bottle neck in the system, which you already have HFC's. My experience is when you open up the exhaust you can start to lose some low-end torque. I'm not racing my car so I don't want wide-open horsepower.
Obviously you'll gain a LITTLE bit of performance (probably only like 2-3 whp) but there's other mods that will make much larger gains, if you were running a true dual exhaust that's a different story, you will pick up power. A better cold air intake is one of the biggest power adders for the naturally aspirated VQ35HR.
A properly engineered exhaust will not cause you to lose torque, that happens when you use too large of a pipe too soon and lose exhaust velocity and the air starts to create pockets of turbulence that restricts the airflow behind it. Something to consider with the HR motor is going with a muffler delete, find someone local that has HFC's to a muffler delete (with an added resonator), it's one of the few platforms that sounds good with a delete and is usually inexpensive.
