Engine Stutter (Hesitaion) at low RPM (under 2k) when cold

Hi,

I have a 2008 X-Sport. 142K miles and have loved every mile. Been doing my own oil changes but everything else has been at the dealer..

In the past year or so, I've noticed right after starting (cold start) and driving the car, the engine stutters while at low engine speed (under 2K rpm), as an example going at 25-30 mph and the auto trans is probably in 4th or 5th gear. If I put the trans into sport mode and put the trans into 3rd gear, keeping the engine run at about 3K rpm, there is no stuttering.

When the engine is warmed up, the issue does not occur.

I've searched this sub forum but didn't see anything exactly like my issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

Typically misfire on cold engines is due to a vacuum leak that goes away as components heat up and expand.

It can also be due to spark plugs that are past their service interval of about 80k miles.

Hi,

The plugs were changed at the dealer at 100k miles in 2017 so they are well within age/mileage.

So any guidance on the vacuum leak is appreciated!

Bump.

It's been a long time since I've been here. The issue still exists. Dealer said to "re-map" the computer, which didn't help..

Also, in the past week, I've had issues starting the car a couple times. Car can't stay at idle. It will just stall. So when that happens, I keep my foot on the gas pedal to keep the rpm's up at startup to keep the engine from stalling...

Have you ever replaced the oil galley gaskets on the tear timing cover?

To test for a vacuum leak you do a "smoke test" call around to get a price quote or buy a halloween smoke machine and do it yourself.

You should also do the idle air recalibration and clean your MAF sensors.
