Question What is the plastic box on intake tube for?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know what this part is used for? This is from 2008 Nissan Skyline 350GT (Japan Model) or Infinity G35. Right-hand intake. Part number: JK20D
The plastic box does not lead to other parts of the engine (it is a dead end attached to the intake tube). I found my one cracked possibly due to heat and plastic age. I want to buy a replacement but can't find the exact part, I don't want to replace the whole intake tube.

Thanks in advance.

It's a resonator to muffle sound basically.

It seems to be not an important part of the intake system. Can i simply remove it, and block the hole with tape.

Your mom's boyfriend
Those are teeth marks from a mouse.

Depending on the design it will either add noise at high revs for a more agressive sounding engine, or muffle the engine noise for a quieter more luxurious ride.

See if you can spot the difference this example is from my current ride :

It should be quieter if you plug it, just make sure whatever you use doesn't fall off.

You can't block it off with tape, it won't last.

You should be able to find a rubber cap and a screw clamp for it in the plumbing section of Home Depot though.
