Me and a friend of mine have recently taken on the challenge of doing the water pump and gallery gaskets as well as some other assorted things you might as well do since you're so deep in
This all started when I noticed a coolant leak we first thought it was the thermostat we redid the thermostat gasket and replaced the thermostat (+housing) and to our disappointment no change so we looked into it a bit more and it seemed that the coolant was pouring out of a weep hole known to be an indicator of the first oring of the water pump blowing out or being damaged so here we are we pop out the water pump and the oring does look like it's seen better days but I noticed something else concerning and would like to hear the opinion of people who are more experienced with these cars
So here are my questions
How severe is this crack?
Should I worry about it?
Is this a common issue?
how many miles on the rig? you can clean it really really well, sand the top of the crack down, clean some more (i love using berryman chemtool) and then jb weld the crack. i think you will be fine if you really clean it well. is that a washer on that bolt or casting? can't really tell. hopefully the crack doens't run behind that bolt.

I appreciate the input!
As for your questions
180k ish miles although the previous owners babied the car up until me owning it and no it's just the head of the bolt,I'll check and see if it runs behind in a little bit
with 180k on the clock, it can easily go another 100k. have you noticed any oil leaks from behind the rear cover? like the guy in this thread: Oil leak at rear timing cover - MyG37
it's up to you, but if the crack doesn't extend too deep, i'd def give jb weld a try. cleaning it out multiple times will ensure a good bond. that, and sanding it down for jb to get a good grip. maybe even shoot a small coat of some good spray paint over that repaired area when it's dry.

Most definitely going to give jb weld a try as I'm currently sanding down some parts of the sub frame to refinish them as a preventative for rust then I'll try and hit the crack with a good clean and some sanding and see just how bad it is
I don't believe I have a leak there like the other guy
