Talking uh oh... coolant leak near the dip stick...

i was changing my air filter when i noticed some dried green coolant.. it looks like few drops, and i am almost 100% i didn't spill coolant in that area during my last change about a year ago.

and the filler holes are on the other side of engine, so i really don't see how i could have spilled it.

is the water pump/thermostat around there area? the coolant level is all good right now.. no issues or drops in the past year.

i really hope it's not the water pump.. help...

I don't know if this is good or bad news but the water pump is right above the drip in your pic. Might just be a hose going bad though, I'd get the car hot and then climb underneath it to check and see if you can locate the leak. Not sure if the coolant would remain green for a year so I suspect that's a fairly recent leak.

the angle.. no hose are on top of it.. maybe some hose leaked and the radiator fan blew it...

damn.. there's more coolant there.. it looks like it is the water pump..

it seems like the coolant is mixed with a white substance.. the consistency is a bit thicker than just coolant/water.. hmmm ...

any clue why the coolant is mix with a white substance?

Doesnt coolant get white/foamy if you have your mix wrong? I think too much water makes it foamy. Maybe I'm completely wrong...

That is right below the thermostat, I would check that gasket.

^^^ or the hose/clamp going to the t-stat... hard to tell from the pic (I'm on little netbook screen though).

you know.. i wished SxExCx and OCG35's posted 30 mins earlier... you guys were right on..
i dropped the car off at the dealer and picked up the loaner for the weekend..

got the phone call noting that t-stat gasket and clamp is bad. Along with clamp/hose of the lower coolant pipe is going bad also.. $279 to fix those, $179 for a coolant flush, and $28 for the radiator cap... (kinda sucks since I had a coolant change and new radiator cap done a year ago)
expensive, but what can I do? I could've fixed those at home, but I thought it was originally the waterpump, hence the reason I took it to the dealership..

After a pressure test, the waterpump was fine..

$28 for a radiator cap and $179 for a coolant flush is beyond insane. Get the parts you need and DIY.

in the end I am paying about $400 in labor... which is a LOT yes...
(i am getting the drive belt changed also)

but if i had to do it myself, it would have taken me about 4 hours, get dirty, no warranty.
I got the loaner for the weekend. Had to go on a long trip.. over 500 miles on it so far..
and it's 20 degrees outside.. and i live in an apt, no garage.. haha

Hi folks. Is this a common repair? I have a coolant leak somewhere and I haven't sourced it yet. Any pics of the spot where this leak is, if it's a common leak, that is?

^Find the leak on yours first. Should be easy unless you have bad head gaskets. The gasket for the T-stat, new hose and clamp that the OP received aren't that expensive. Labor will be far more expensive. The T-stat is mounted to the block, just trace the thick radiator hose coming from the driver's side of the radiator.
