Should the clock have a back light?

Newbie question. My clock does not light during the day. Is there a bulb that's out or just poor engineering? TIA.

The clock lights up only when the headlights are on. Why is that poor engineering?

Do you have an 03-04 or do you have an 05+? I think on the 03-04, it's recessed so it's kinda dark during the day. On the 05+, it looks just fine for me even during the day.

^^ Yeah I have an 06 and I can see mine just fine during the day. If you cant see it during the day drive with your head lights on, its safer to drive that way for one, and for two you can now see your clock. so it works out all around.
