Hey John,
I tend to agree with you. I've been a member here for nearly a year now, but have only a few posts (as I lurk on occasion, but don't post much due to a busy life (2 jobs, family, church stuff, etc).
I always thought it was odd to have such restrictive rules for the classifieds too, because:
1) Usually, newbies are the ones who actually WANT to buy (and sometimes sell) stuff that they get excited about when discovering more about their chosen car when they first join; and
2) I would think, the objective is to encourage a welcoming feel (as well as promoting commerce) to new members. What better way than to allow them all the priviledges the site offers WITHOUT making them wait it out for several months and/or multiple postings to be "worthy" of membership?
I find myself in a (regretful) situation where I'm looking to sell my beloved '03 6MT sedan.
I really thought this would be the ideal place to sell it, as a lightly modded 6MT sedan is not your average G, and more suited to the enthusiast crowd found here.
I was excited at the prospect of selling it here, only to discover the very restrictive rules in place that disallow it
It seems that there are a couple ways around this though:
1) BUY your way out of it (via an "upgraded" membership); or
2) Have joined BEFORE October 2008 (as these folks apparantly are exempt from these rules as they were "grandfathered" in).
Geesh.
Can't we all just be free to post at will to help each other?
Not trying to be disrespectful to anyone, just stating an opinion...
