There's no question that handling and braking are most important. Nevetheless, you can't deny the pleasure you get in having a car that has enough power to push you back into your seat when you hit the gas pedal. I'm not talking about driving insanely on public roads. Just the occassional 5-70 run on some deserted country road or highway. Unfortunately for me, the G35 doesn't have it, and I was hoping that the G37 would, but now I don't think so. I won't know for sure however until I take my test drive.

But, more importantly, the general American public, with it's long, straight roads typically prefers "push-you-back" acceleration. Just look at American muscle and why it is so popular. So, for the mass-market, acceleration is just as important, if not more so.
Especially in the near-luxury market that Infiniti is targeting (over the more performance-oriented group) -- I believe they tend to favor stoplight pulling power over carrying speed in the canyons.
