Markup????

I went to a dealership about 2 or 3 weeks ago ready to pre-order a G37, but the salesman said that they had ran out of non-markup G37s for the first shipment so now theres a markup for $5000...

he said that the markup is gonna stay for an entire year starting August 07.
I thought it was a ridiculous amount to pay for a G37, i mean..i love the car and all but thats a HUGE price to pay for a whole lot of nothing.

Do you guys know if thats just a thing car salesmen say to get you to pay that markup or do you guys really think its gonna be THAT MUCH and for THAT LONG...

he also told me another option is that the dealership has 4 G37 that are coming the same time as the 1st shipment except i cant choose my own option combinations not even the color...and this is still with the 5k markup.

but he said that doing that i could get a G37 right when it comes out cuz he said theres a 6 MONTH waitlist for that car...

is there really a 6 month waitlist?

I figured that I shouldnt rush into getting my first car since i'll probably have to drive it for a while...but i dont know if i can really wait for THAT LONG...

what do you guys think?

good grief. did the dealer hand you a little bottle of K-Y right before he stated all of that? that's such a load of crap it's not even funny.

at most, you'll be looking at MSRP when it first comes out. go to another dealer and order your car. as of right now it may take til September.

Seriously, that's the most ridiculous thing I've heard. Take your money elsewhere.

Guru6 - I agree, but keep in mind that a fool is born every day ,so anything is possible. $5K markup on a mass produced car is funny.

to vc 128: I call gross BS on this! Get away from that dealer fast and find another. No reputable oufit will ask anything above MSRP for early deliveries. This is a matter of business ethics. If my dealer (across the river in SC) were to ask any amount over MSRP I'd drive many miles away from here to get my price ... but he's stated MSRP at outset and not a nickle more .

If your circumstances can be adjusted to permit you to wait until Jan-Feb 2008, that's when prices are likely to be below MSRP (just my take, considering this car will sell very well). By how much and how soon is really just pure speculation at this point. I'm not ordering until the end of April 2008, but that's only because it suits my planning. Everyone's different.

Go to another dealer, this one is trying to take you for everything you have. I ordered mine and I got to choose the color and options I wanted.

the dealer closest to me said over the phone $2K above sticker initially. This is the dealer with 2007 Infiniti Award of Execellence.

Haha thanks for the advices!!!
I plan on getting it probably 2008 whenever earliest possible...

the only reason i'm so impatient is because this is the 3rd car i've been waiting for since i've decided to buy a car...
first i waited 9 months for the 335i to come out...then i didnt like it that much plus WAYYY above my budget...
then i decided on the IS350..but heard about the G37...LOL...

i've been through almost all the cars...if i dont get the G37 i'd probably end up waiting for skyline (which is gonna be too expensive for me anyway)

I SHALL WAIT FOR G37!

Actually it's the sales manager and not the salesmen that set pricing. As far as I'm concerned, they can ask whatever they want. Let's not forget it's always the comsummer that determines the final selling price. If they can find some A-hole who is willing to pay $5K over sticker, than more power to them.

ok for the hell of it I went to my nearest dealer again and test drove an 07 6MT Sedan to get a feel for the gearbox. Besides the .2 displacement difference it should pretty much feel the same going around the block. While doing that I asked about the 37 pricing. I was told it will be $1K above current Coupe and a fully loaded G37 6MT (prem, nav, tech) would be $41K but not to expect any discounts until late spring 08.

I hope that's not going to be the case with all the dealers around here as I'm planning to test drive in August and make a deal in the fall. He also said that all 188 dealers are getting a maximum of 8 cars in August and that he's getting ready to place the September order next week. I don't know if this is just all talk but thought I'd pass on here.
