Road And Track Review

I copied this from another forum- not sure how accurate it is but he claims it came out of RT
A step behind the 335i. The review was pretty short. I can only scan this in black and white so I'll list some numbers.

0-60mph
335i = 4.8
G37 = 5.5

0-100mph
335i = 11.9
G37 13.5

Milege
335i = 23.9, 19/28mpg
G37 = est 21.0, est 20/27

Here is part of what they wrote:
The G37 is a great street car that borders on the luxury side of the BMW, which weighs less, costs more and jiggles your kidneys. The G sacrifices the performance of its predecessor for a more complaint ride, supple, interior, great comfort and quietness. All the complaints we had of the first-generation G35 have been remedied, except its performance, which we found to be essentially unchanged. Even with its new stroked VQ 3.7-liter engine featureing Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) that is preliminary rated at 330 bhp, the G couldn't match the pace of the turbocharged 335i.

In the ending they wrote:
While styling is a highly subjective area, we have to give the nod to the 335i, the heat on BMW's "flame surfaced" treatment now dialed down to an acceptable temperature. Details on both cars are beautifully executed.

i have a feeling infiniti wants the G to be a more of a luxury car than a sports car. almost on the way to being the lexus SC430 or something like that.
i bet they're not happy with people doing mods and stuff, and they want to keep infiniti as a luxury car. my thought

That's what I think was Infiniti's goal this time around. I believe before they wanted to create more of a sports car than a luxury car. I think they have a different path for the new G37 because of the change of market? To me, going more luxury than sports is more appropriate for a luxury company. The G37 is still a sporty car... it's just that I personally believe it was built to more of a luxury sports GT (or whatever you call it) hehe.

The claims right now can only be at best a rumor until we are able to see the real deal from Road and Track. From what I see... I don't think the car magazine actually tested them side by side but instead already had numbers for the 335i and then just put what they got with the G37 and added them on. Those numbers as you can tell are very different than what Motor Trend got for their actual comparison test. That is also the FIRST 13.5 I have ever seen for the G37... that is if the review is true.

Lets wait to actually see the real thing before making any real judgements with the Road and Track review.

Yep, spot on. I don't know about a Lexus SC430 but I understand where you're coming from.

That would be something that I would really love to see, hehe. I never thought of it that way. Thanks for the post, smokedhen. What does "NA" mean btw?

Naturally Aspirated, meaning, no form of Forced Induction (FI) , whether Superchargers or Turbochargers

FI will always create more power, more mod friendly, but lets face it, never as reliable as NA baby....Wait till some mods come out for the VQ37....if not...VQ's can always be forced induced and they would destroy a 335i. Both are great cars, but the minimal difference in performance power the 335i has over the G, doesnt justify to me the 5-7K difference in price. The G looks better, sounds better, has a better interior,and will without a doubt be more reliable than the BMW.

what i mean is they want to make it with BMW's and lexus's rather than with STi's and Evo's. kinda attract the luxury crowd and get rid of ricers.. kind of

Just got the new C&D today also with their test...
0-60 5.3
1/4 13.9

I agree they are going after the luxury market but I would have liked the performance to improve more. Both the 335 and IS350 do sub 5's 0-60 and the lexus is an AT! I do like the new 37 and think the interior is a huge improvement. I would just expect more than a 30 HP increase to put up better numbers. In addition MT got 0-60 of 5.5 for a 6 MT coupe w/330HP and 5.3 for a 5 AT sedan w/306 HP (see Long Term Arrival: 2007 Infiniti G35 Sport). Does anyone find that curious?

i wonder if we only get the base g37 since it's the lightest. then maybe add your own wheels or something.
will you be missing too much if you do that? does the sport package add a lot of value to the driving experience?
