Car & Driver complained about headroom up front in th eG37, even for a 6 footer!! Kill the sunroof and this goes away, which is what I will probably do..

Hmm... well if you kill the sunroof, then you're also saying goodbye to the premium package (not sure if that matters to you anyways, hehe). The headroom with the sunroof is 37.7" w/ the sunroof and 39.4" w/out the sunroof. In comparison... the 2007 G35 sedan has 39.1" w/ the sunroof and 40.5" w/out the sunroof. I hope this information helps.
I thought the SR was in that package. I guess they are marketing the car to little people, perhaps mostly women this time. That is just moronic how they package all that stuff together WITHOUT offering each item separately. Some of us are actually willing to spend some money to get exactly what we want. Some of these meathead decisions by Infiniti are pissing me off.

I re-read that paragraph a few times. I think they were talking about the rear seats, although that is very unclear. I say this because the next paragraph after that, they mention something about how the front seats are where you want to be anyway.Originally Posted by jnmunsey

It's easier to build and package that way. Personally, I'd rather have it the way Infiniti does. Look at BMW. They charge for everything (heated seats, comfort access, IPOD integration). Who wouldn't want those options? They should all be standard.Originally Posted by jnmunsey

I agree on individual options for NAV (for awhile at least until prices come down), any funky steering ala 4WAS or performance enhancing feature. Sunroof is debatable - some people just need more headroom but still want all the "premium" items.

I was confused about that statement too, but they are referring to the rear seats, which personally for me, is not that big of a deal. I made sure by comparing the G37 to the G35 headroom. I got these right off the Nissan/Infiniti website. If you have no problems in a G35, the G37 will be fine, though I still plan to do the seat lowering mod.
Headroom:
G37
39.4 w/o sunroof
37.7 w sunroof
G35
39.2 w/o sunroof
37.9 w sunroof

I don't understand what Car & Driver's problem was with the headroom. I'm 6'3" and have adequate headroom in my G35 Coupe. I would figure the G37 Coupe would be practically identical in headroom.

Can you elaborate a bit on the "seat lowering mod?"

There is a way to move the bolts on the seat track, so that it will allow the seat to go down a little further. The G35 coupe guys discovered this and they said they could get almost 1 inch more of headroom. If you do a search you will probably be able to find it. Click the link and it will give you a pretty good idea of what you need to do in order to lower it. Hope this helps you.Originally Posted by 7upp

thanks for the assistance. I really don't care for the sunroof and I want the extra headroom but the way they package things its essentially mandatory if you want some of the nicer options. Hopefully this mod essentially solves the issue.

Yeah, I understand that, I would be willing to sacrifice the sunroof, but I want the premium package. However, to make sure I went to sit in a G35 and make sure I had enough headroom, and I was ok, so I just went ahead and ordered the premium pack.

Finding a G without a sunroof is hard. I picked up what appeared to be the last 2007 G35 sedan without a sunroof in north Texas. I only found (2) 'roofless' sedans at Grubbs. The dealer told me that the only roofless cars were part of the original distribution of the 2007 sedans in October/November 2006. These were manufacturer designated rather than dealer ordered stock. Apparently, Infiinti USA does this to make sure some base MSRP vehicles are on the lot during the model year. At least that's what the dealer said...
In short, I got a 2007 sedan base model in late February at a great price. And I have headroom. I'm 6'2" with short legs and a long torso. Believe me, I could not sit comfortably and not have my head on the headliner with a sunroof car. I still have (2) roofed 1999 I30s at home - the roofed 2007 sedan has about 1/2" less headroom than the I30. I am much more comfortable in the roofless G than the I30.
The only thing I miss in the base model G is automatic on headlights. The other cars on my list were the TL-S and the TSX. After I drove the G, the choice was obvious - the G was superior in almost every category and the availability of a no-roof base model was the clincher.

I didn't fit in the last G35 coupe with a sunroof (6'2"), and they said I couldn't order one without it. So, I figure the sunroof is "mandatory" for the new model as well.

Coupes could be ordered without a sunroof if you could wait three months. I did
