Should I change my order? (4WAS)

I ordered a G37 with 4WAS and am thinking about calling and having it removed as an option if possible at this point.

The reasoning is that it doesn't do all that much for you and adds weight.

Are these two reasonings valid? Does anyone know the actual weight it does add?

Thoughts?

Welcome to the forums iansw. First I would like to ask you... what are you going to use the car for? Are you just a daily driver? enthusiast? and so forth...

It seems overall that it's not needed and I know that several car magazines prefer the G37 without the 4WAS. I think the 4WAS wouldn't hurt a daily driver but it would hurt someone who really likes going fast on curves. It may be a waste of money...

It doesn't activate at slow speeds so it doesn't even increase your turning radius. In my opinion, it doesn't add anything worthwhile to the car and is something that might be expensive to fix later.

Don't know how much weight it adds either.

I was in the same situation as you and I decided to order mine without it. However, in the end, it is your decision. Good luck man!

me personally i like the RAS in the M45 sport-- b/c it's a big car but in the '06-'07 coupes i thought the steering ratio was too quick -- and i know people complained if you hit a pothole or live in an area w/ lots of them the alignment goes off very quick. i've seen a few RAS units being replaced due to that

Unless you are driving the autobahn daily at speed and need an extra cushion of safety with quick lane change maneuvers I would pass.

Personally I wouldn't want the 4WAS if they offered it to me for free.

Yeah, I still have flashbacks from my Stealth TT with 4WS above 30mph. That car had some of the funkiest handling traits ever. No thanks.

Keep in mind if you are a good driver you will not need it and you will most likely hate it, but if you are inexperienced it might help you in situations where you might otherwise lose control of the car. For me if I get the G37 I will get no 4WAS and turn off VDC and traction control most of the time.

i considered adding 4was but as others mentioned.. i wasnt feeling it. Not sure why i didnt go ahead and add it as i ordered everything else and the tech package which isnt giving me anything i care too much about but threw it on the order anyway. I couldnt justify the expense (whatever it may be)... one of thoese under-the-covers add-ons that you'll either notice when you drive or dislike because all it did was add weight.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks!

As for what I drive now - it's a 1997 Nissan Maxima, Stillen S/C with a 2.87" Pulley, 3" custom exhaust, Conversion from an Auto to VLSD 5spd, Middle Eastern Variable Intake Manifold, Z Fuel and MAF system, Z Brakes, etc, etc.

She's 359hp,285tq - and I love her - but she's getting long in the tooth and I've taken her about as far as I feel I want to. FWD just isn't doing it for me anymore. As well, she's somewhat unrefined, loud, and more of a 25 year old single guy's car than a 32 year old with a kid's car.

The car just hit 100k miles today, actually!

BUT - I LOVE the VQ (359hp in a 190hp engine without any internals upgraded @ 14psi and she runs awesome)....so I'm taking the plunge to the G37.

I track occasionally (1/4 mile, but hope to get into autocross) - but mostly this will be a daily driver.

If a Turbo kit comes out and it's reasonable however, I'm more than capable of installing it myself.

I also run a local message board for Maximas, but we have a few Z's, G's, and Q's as well - http://www.nwmaxima.com

Anyway - sounds like I'm making the right decision getting rid of "the dead hooker in the trunk" and not getting 4WAS.

i have RAS on my 06 and the difference in cornering is night and day.. my friend has an 07, same exact car as mine, but w/o the RAS and you feel the difference after 25mph.

the feel of the car hugging the zig zag corners at 55+mph is just amazing.. soo smooth. very unique driving experience driving thru the mountains.

do you need? nope... but if ur going to keep a car for 5+ years, might as well go all out.

instead of spending the money you saved, ricing the shlt out of ur car. haha.
