Go g37!!!!!! even though the 335 is faster and if it did goin it limp mode i wonder who would have had the fastest lap time, because the g's brakes dont seem to fade but the 335 is faster?

Wait, I thought only Automatic 335i (which doesn't have an oil cooler) have the overheating issue? Isn't that what Picus has been telling us on the other thread? Seems like the MT test car was an manual transmission sport 335i, so why would there be any heating problem with this vehicle?

btw: Awesome video, demonstrate the difference between the two vehicles on the track nicely. I still don't understand why BMW didn't put a LSD on the 335i, the flip flap power slide looks dangerous and is almost embarassing compared to the long smooth oversteer with the G37.

Hmmm... I wonder if the car that Motor Trend had did have the oil cooler in it... *shrugs* Anyone know if this test track was part of the comparison test review that Motor Trend did a while back?

Edit: Nope nevermind. I forgot that the comparison test in the magazine was with automatics and not manuals. Although I'm still wondering about the oil cooler... it was a manual transmission with the sport package and it still had issues. Picus explain!

Because it will be the same handling car as the M3. That is the only reasonable answer. Just like the cayman S doesn't have LSD because it WILL handle better than the 911.

Not sure why the 335i was ever considered a competitor. It has usable back seats, more cargo space, and a much higher price. For me the G35 sedan should be the competitor..

*sighs* The G35 sedan has the 335i Sedan. The G37 has the 335i Coupe... although it should be compared with the 328i Coupe since it's in the exact same price range and in that case... the G37 definitely owns a coupe (the 328i) of equivalent price.

It's interesting that they said at the end of the video that BMW is addressing this. But if it already had the cooler, what else are they addressing. Maybe some earlier models didn't have it?

I'm also on the bimmer forums and there was a guy recently whose car went into limp mode and his temp never went over 250. If you listen to the guy in the video he says something like "the temp isn't hot...." so there must be some other issue that is starting to surface.

Limp mode is better than letting the car die on you. It seems like the car recovers back to normal after a bit.

Regardless, BMW should of thoroughly done their R&D to avoid these issues. I mean, I know they havent been in the turbo game for a while, but if youre going to release a car with 2 heat sucking turbos, make sure the car is more than well cooled.... I dont care what anyone says, the G37 will no matter what be the more reliable car. I could see if this was 1 in 1,000 cases, but these issues are getting to be common on the forums...and its ridiculous... I though German engineering was 1 of the best ? Lets go Nissan/Infiniti !

I gotta tell you all that reliability is above performance on MY list and although I initially shopped the 335i it would be off my list now because of this issue. I've heard enough to scare me away from that choice. Can't wait for the G to get here and with any luck it will be trouble free.

That BMW doesn't have the sport pack - look at the seats and wheels. No sport = no cooler. If I am not mistaken this is the same car that overheated in the Edmunds test; same track, provided by Infiniti. So not a real shocker. Edit: it is the same car, same plate. Probably the same day.

FWIW, you guys have made up your mind about the 335i's reliability. Realistically, it's been an incredibly smooth launch. The oil cooler thing was a fubar, as was the hp fuel pump, both are fixed. Gotta keep it in perspective, we will see if the G37 is problem free.

one reason i've been wary of german cars (even vws) was the price of parts, and the fact that "it won't break often, but when it does, it really hurts the wallet"...

besides, german quality isn't what it used to be, look at mercedes, for example,

of course, with the milage i usually do, i don't bother with new cars, (i've even had new car salesmen tell me it's stupid to buy an new car with my milage habits). besides, once the car has been out a few years, there is a large base of evidence for reliability, one of the big reasons i got the g35.
i'll weigh in in 5 years on which one is better, once we see how many reach a few hundred thousand kms, and how many problems they've had.

both are great new cars, no doubt, but i would like to see both after a couple of years of hard daily use. from the 2003 g35s i've seen, they age quite gracefully, compared to similar vintage 3 series. i'd rather a car i'll be confident taking on the track now, AND in 10 years, than a car that's better now but won't last 5...

even though the bmw is more refined..they have been king for awhile and soon to be dethroned..
