Group Buy - SoCal (LA/Orange county)

Hi Everyone,

Me and my friend plan to order 2 cars as soon as we find a great deal and considering the fact that working with dealers in SoCal is a pain in the a$$ I think it would be a great idea to have a group buy kind of thing which would definitely give us a greater negotiating power.

So if anyone is interested and plans to order a car as soon as possible, drop me a line and we will take it from there.

And if you already got a great deal on a G37 or know a dealer who is willing to negotiate, I would appreciate it if you would share your knowledge with me (and the other board members of course)

Thanks.

My take on why this might not work: Infiniti clearly knows that the G37 is a highly anticipated car. They know that this car will sell no matter what. It isn't like a Honda Civic where there are mass amounts of supply, with little demand. The opposite is rather true for the G coupe. Low supply and high demand. Hence, the chances of them negotiating a price under MSRP is unlikely for launch even with a group buy in Socal since the population and demand is very high.

I agree...The demand will be high. The best thing to do is wait a few months and see how things go. Utilize this forum and negotiate with info from other buyers. I would consider the group buy but I think it may take a few months to work out.

I agree with everything that you guys pointed out. However, what you are not considering is the competition between the dealers. They would do anything to sell 1 more extra car. As I said before I will be working with about 10 dealers to get the best deal. Of course I have no doubt that every dealer wants to get the most out of the car he is selling but what they ultimately want is to sell cars, the more the better. The way I see it, it's all about competition between the dealers. Overall I see the group buy as a positive thing. I am sure we will be able to get a discount but probably nothing close to invoice!

Going to be straight with you. This is a new model and the dealers in the area are going to sell the car right around same price. Unless you are a Fleet manager there is now way to have a group buy. Everyone's budget is different. Stop by my place on Thursday ask for me and see where we will go from there. Going to be hard to find one not taken right now. That is why we are taking deposits to guarantee the price..

I have no reason to BS you as I'm on the forums like you. I own a G and a FX-35.
The dealers are like everyone else trying to make a living. I just started selling and it's not all you think. The experience with your sales person should be a positive one. Just be realistic and work to get you the product and the salesman paid. If you aren't happy with the sales person ask for another one...

Myself and 2 of my friends tried this same thing earlier this year.
We went to a BMW dealer and tried to get a three-car deal.
Two of us were looking into a 328i coupe, and the other was looking into a 330 sedan.
It didn't work, the "deals" he gave us sucked *****!! (42K for a 328i coupe, not even fully loaded)
Thank god for that greedy salesman I didn't make a mistake of getting a 328.

I'm glad you didn't get a good deal on the 328 myk1013. That car is a piece of crap!!!

Is the 42K you are talking about over MSRP?
How many dealers did you work with?

And since you didn't get a deal at a BMW dealership doesn't necessarily mean others can't work up a deal at an Infiniti dealership. Different locations, different situations and so on ...

Anyways I do appreciate your input but I still believe this idea would work. I mean what do I have to lose? Nothing. Worst comes to worst I will have to pay the MSRP they are asking for.

i'm a fleet manager here at Infiniti of Massapequa, i'm also the internet sales manager, the leasing company manager, the lease retention manager.... well you get the point. I've always helped a lot of members on the boards local and nationwide get their new Infinitis and gave them the best experience around. The problem is supply and demand of the G37. Remember, the outside world has a lot of people that do not travel onto the forums (but you'd be suprised how many of them do). it could work depending on how much inventory is available. best of luck to everyone though.

Hey da_mayor, I am not 100% sure but I thought that the stock for the G37 was going to be limited at first. I swear I say some official documentation (I think her and on another forum) that showed that Infiniti is only giving a certain number of G37's to each dealership depending on certain factors. Some will be allocated 3-5, 5-7, etc but nothing over 12 I think. Did you see something like this?

Ha ha ha, yeah, I'm glad I didn't get a good deal and get a 328 myself!! wheww!
42K is about 8K OVER the 328's MSRP. I only worked with one dealer, well because I'm here on the tiny island of Guam. We dont have multiple dealers selling the same brand of cars. There's only about 5 main dealerships that sell several car brands i.e. (Toyota,Lexus,Scion,GMC,Chevy,Hummer) (Mazda, Mitsubishi, Ford, Honda, Kia) (Jeep, Dodge, Hyundai) (BMW, Land Rover,Subaru) (Nissan/Infiniti). A huge part of the markup is the shipping fee of the car (about 2k/car), the rest is stealership fees and taxes.

I wasn't saying that the idea won't work. You're right, different dealers, different attitudes and situations. It doesnt hurt to try.
BTW, a Sport trim G37 here is going for around 42K. Fully loaded is around 47K. Just what I was anticipating. I'm planning on getting mine late this year or early next year.
Good luck.

You must be kidding my right? I know one dealer is getting 50 for Aug. and Sep. Another one is getting 40. Of course they would love to tell you there are only 2 cars available in the US. This is part of their marketing campaign and that's the way it always is and should be.

Time will tell I guess ....

Bottom line is, if you want a good deal, you've got to work for it, especially right now that the car is new. You can't just walk in to the dealership and ask for discounts. I'm pretty sure it's possible, it just depends on which dealership you go to and who you talk to.

Good luck all

I received the inventory list from one of the dealerships here in Houston. It was 3 pages long and most of the G's coming in were unspoken for. I'm hoping this will help with the negotiating.

The key thing is for people to just wait but this never seems to happen. With a "new" car introduction, lambs run to the slaughter to be the "first on the block" while supplies are artificially held back to create the supply/demand craze. Think about it, these are not some exotic hand-made models that take forever to produce. The manufacturer wants to produce more of these to sell, not less, so in reality, there will be plenty. Examples of other cars that were at first "scarce" and no-deals--original Mazda Miata, PT Cruiser, Volkswagen Beetle. For all of these people were paying MSRP+++ when then came out but, after a while, prices plummeted.

I agree. It's business. It's sales. You either have "time"..or you got "money". If you don't have the patience and wanna be the first one on the streets with one...then be ready to fork over the money. You want a better deal..then it's gonna take time and patience. For me, I have plenty of time. I'm only getting this car through the VPP program. Ain't no way I'm paying MSRP.
