g25x?

My point was that for a car with a smaller engine, people would buy it for the GAS savings but there's really not much in savings except a mile or two from a g37... what's the point? ??
it's not for buyers but for leasers. Like BMW 328i, Mercedes C class, all of those brands that you hear have "attractive lease rates" at certain times of year. There's a niche for it.

jomamahama, you are right on target. If i were buying, there's no decision, it would have been a G37. Better value and better resale, plus it would be what I wanted to drive for a few $K more for the next 5+ years. But the lease rate I got on the 25 I couldn't pass up based on my actual need for the next 2-3 years. So I think leasing is a niche that the 25 fits. Also around here, for a lease, the 25x is both the nicest and least expensive AWD lux sedan you can find by far.

Consider this as well...I live in Northern Virginia and a lot of the Gs around here are driven by women, who for the most part won't really appreciate the 3.7 as much as driving enthusiasts. It's much the same crowd that drives the 328 as was stated before. The 25 makes better financial sense as it's cheaper, gets better mpg looks identical to 98% of the G37 sedans out there (lets be real only a few of us opt for the S or 6MT). If my wife wanted a G, knowing her I'd put her in a 25 and not even consider the 37.

I was checking the specs on this car, and it seems like its only 2500 dollars cheaper than a g37x... and the gas mileage difference is a whopping 2mpg... I test drove a loaner while my 35x was getting a brake flush, and to say the least it felt underpowered...
Here's the million dollar question... wtf is the benefit of buying this thing?

I just leased my G25 Journey Moonroof. Main reason was the lease rate vs the G37. $279/mo vs $359/mo. Big savings for me and the car handles very nicely and has plenty of pickup. The 2MPG really isn't that great but the cost/mo is what put me the car. The G25 was the cheapest lease option vs all other luxury vehicles.
I have been driving Lexus my entire life and traded in my beast LS430 rocket ship for this car and although the G25 doesn't plant me back in my seat, it does get out of its own way and has plenty of pep for the rare times that I actually need it. Car is super fun to drive also.
If I was buying I would have totally went for the G37 as the $2500 price difference really does not make any sense at all. I agree with you all too that yes you would think the G25 would get much better MPG.

I think I'd have to agree with a lot of the G25 owners out there. It all comes down to price.
When my Acura TSX V6 lease ended I wanted a different brand (plus lower payments), I cross shopped the G25 and G37 Journey sedans and it came down to how much I wanted to pay in the end. I ended up with a $280/month lease with $1500 down (incl. tax, tag, title).
So far the driving experience in a G25 is great, even coming from a car with 280hp. Can't wait to see what the 2014 model is going to be like!

Comes down to price but I'd probably still go for the bigger engine because you are driving a car for the experience, not to get to point A to point B. NM. You get the car to get to point A to point B... lol.

I find it hard to believe anyone spending tens of thousands of dollars on a car is going to look at the $2500 savings over a G37 as a valid reason.

After trying to drive in snow with our G35 coupe, i wanted all wheel drive, the G37x was $80.00 a month more ($4k) and i don't find the 218 HP to be all that bad, plus I have all wheel drive. The G25x handles very well so far and the gas mileage is better than the 07 G35 we had. Yes navigation would be nice as would automatic seat slide back, but i don't think those two options are worth $80 every month. plus the temptation to drive 120 mph is not as strong.
As a new owner of a G25x, maybe I can shed some light on why someone would actually want the G25x over a G37 by relating my own experience. First of all, I lease my cars, not purchase – so for me a car is a 3 year experience at best, and I’ve had everything from a v6 Accord to a Maxima SE that wasn’t happy below 90mph, so I have varied experiences.
Several people have stated that the G25 is only for those who just want the brand. Well, not true – I want the car behind the brand. And in this case the car, with the exception of the engine size and a few non-essential options, is identical to the G37. Excellent fit and finish, great interior and features, exceptional ride and handling, exceptional braking ability, etc. – it’s the same as the G37 because it’s the same car. The G37 is not *just* the engine, so if you love the G series sedan, I’m not sure how you can hate the G25.
As for the engine itself, I drive between 20-30 miles per day, most of it city or suburban. The 3.7 engine, while a heck of a lot of fun, buys me nothing except a chance for a few speeding tickets in 35mph zones. So why should I pay extra for it for the driving I do? Makes no sense and is a waste of money. Granted, the power is nice and I wish the 2.5 had 20 more HP, but it’s still much better (and smoother) than the 4-cyls in “equivalent” Lexus and Mercedes. It still sounds nice and drives smooth and tight.
With regard to not having Navi being a fail – really? Again, I drive 20-30 miles a day, and almost always to the same place… I know where I’m going. And if I don’t, my Android phone that’s connected through the onboard Bluetooth talks me through it just fine, that 1 time a month I need it. Another $1000 option I don’t need. And memory seats? I’m the only one who drives it – once it’s set I’m pretty much good to go for… like… forever. But what I don’t give up in the G25x is heated leather seats, auto dual-zone climate control, rear camera, Bluetooth, iPod integration, power driver/passenger seats, moonroof, all wheel drive, exceptional handling, etc. etc. That certainly is not a fail for me.
And the bottom line of why? Well, because for a lease, (and counting differences in insurance – the G37 is higher), my bottom line is about $100/month difference between a G25x and a G37x. Again, why would I pay an extra $100/mo for things I don’t really need when all of the rest of the car (which is why I like it in the first place) is the same. Hey if you want to spend the extra money, go ahead – I’m just relating that in my case it doesn’t make good sense.
I don’t consider the G25x to be an entry-level or lower class Infiniti just to get into a brand – it’s a beautiful G sedan - with a different engine. And the loss of Navi and memory seats in no way reduces the overall quality of the car. My opinion of course.

What are your real world numbers for MPG?
I'm in the market for a new car inthe next year and debating a G25x vs a G37x. I'd rather hear from some actual 25X owners what they are seeing for highway MPG. I tend to drive almost 30K miles per year.
