Gauge Cluster / Speedo swap (03 to 05+)

I have an 03 Auto without Nav and want to put in an 05 cluster. The 05 has 106000km and my car has 71000km. How can I get this to match my original mileage? When I swap in the new cluster, will it automatically show my original mileage (is it stored elsewhere) - or will it show what is on the 'new' cluster?

To change the mileage on the new cluster without the use of any factory tools, you will need to hook it up to a computer and change some bits on the EPROM to update the mileage.

finding out "which" bits to change can be a little tricky

Should I get the dealership to verify and give me a document stating my car has 71000km and the new one has 106000km, and the reason for the swap? Would this be the best thing to do to make it legal and better for resale?

I may just stick with my 03 cluster. I dislike it, but I would not want the new cluster to show higher mileage then what the car really has. I was told that that any cluster I put in will automatically show the original KM as it is not stored in the cluster. Is that true or false? Based on the above posts, it seems that the cluster holds the mileage and that any cluster put in will show whatever mileage that new cluster has and therefore will never match the car.

Does anyone sell the cluster with programming?

I too am sick of the orange - but not sure if this is worth it. I want the same mileage, or at the least a proper way to track it. I have seen members complete this swap with ease - but no mention about mileage remaining the same or different, and what steps to take to correct it.

i am interested in this too. but why match the mileage? just lower it by allot ??? stop being honest john. haha

As for the the gauge swap, the wiring connectors are different. The 04 uses two 22 or so terminals, and the 05 uses one 40 terminal. I don't think it would be advisable rewire the existing harness as there are CAN lines that are very sensitive to any additional resistance in the circuit. Also the combination meter converts the analog wheel speed signal to a digital pulse signal that the ECM can decipher. It would be a neat swap though if you do it.
