Now sure if this is the right section but it seems to be a tech question.

I finally used my stock jack this weekend due to a flat(have always used shop jacks for whatever). As the car was in the air I hear a small creaking noise and before i knew it the car drop to the ground. Lucky I haven't taken the lug nuts off so it just landed back on the flat. I look at my jack which fell sideways...It got BENT!!
OK... so has this happened to anyone else? Yes, I have used many stock jacks on other cars before. And yes it was in the proper jack point in front of the rear tire. I had to walk 2 blocks to a local repair shop to borrow their shop jack. Drag that heavy thing to and back, and had to give a $200 deposit. Yes i was pissed!!!!
I'm not sure if this was a question, a gripe, or just being frustrated.

 

It's not normal but where you jacking on a level and stable ground? Cracks on paving, brick and gravel/dirt ground would probably make it dangerous.

 

Stock jack is crap, but if you're level and stable, it should work okay.

If you don't happen to be on a completely flat surface,
The added load can easily buckle the OE jack.
I've seen the same thing on many other cars as well.

I shudder when I see some of the pics on 'Driver with the OE jack.

 

I was half a block from my house(lucky me) so I just rolled idle speed into my garage. That's why it's strange. Flat paved garage floor and correct jacking points. The car was up for a minute at most, I bent down to check everything was off the ground and boom!!

Never using a stock jack again! I'm buying one of those light weight floor jacks for the trunk

was your parking brake on? If its not and you lean on the car at all this can happen really easily. So easily, in fact, that thats how I bent my stock jack. Been riding w/o one since and feels risky.

 

never heard of a problem with the stock jack, but i would drove those 2 blocks especially on stock wheels, if it was aftermarkets i would proceed how you did, theres plenty of quality jacks online

 

i used my stock jack a few times in my driveway which is rocks. never had any problem. i had the one wheel in the air for like 2 weeks with the stock jack in the driveway with no problem

 

Happened to me once before. Dealer gave me a new one for free. I rarely use it now. I bought a cheap $20 one from wal mart and made some ramps out of plywood so I can actually get the jack under the car and it works fine. My great aunt gave me her jack and that thing is amazing. Oldschool, but I can get the car 2 ft. off the ground in the front, maybe a little more.

 

I just came across this thread. My car slipped off the stock jack and bent my jack too (and my rear bumper a little too) ftl

 

Stock jack SUCKS!! I don't know how many times I wanted to throw that damn thing away..I never curse so much in my life when using it..LOL

 

yikes. you guys chocking up the wheels? you must be certain the vehicle will not be able to shift before you attempt to raise it.

 

same thing happened to me the first time, like the car moved as soon as off the ground,
the second time i just put the car trough all the gears and no problem

 

Stock jack sucks. Mine is slightly bent as well. I used it to jack up the car high enough to fit my craftsman jack under there. Any suggestions on any other way to get the car high enough without using the stock jack? I tried making ramps with some wood but they slide all over my garage floor.
