Car smells hot
Car smells hot
I'll start by saying that I'm new to the forum (obviously), just bought an '03 coupe, and I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to cars.
I've had the car for about a week now and about 50% of the time after driving the car and turning it off I smell something inside the cabin that is hard to explain, but just smells like heat. It's weird because it seems like it only happens if I drive the car a little harder than normal and I have the A/C on. As soon as I turn the car off and the A/C cuts I get that heat smell.
I don't know enough about cars to be able to tell if this is an easily identifiable smell, so sorry for the vague explanation. Anyone have anything similar or any clue to what this might be?

I think i know that smell, but just for kicks how does heat smell? LOL! when you cut the pwr are your windows down or door open, is your ac on fresh or recirc? That smell is probably coming from the engine bay. Try riding without ac and see if you get the same smell when you shut down.
Haha I know I couldn't think of a better way to describe it. When I cut the power, all of the windows are up and doors are closed. The A/C is recirculating and as far as I can tell I only smell it inside the vehicle and when the A/C has been on. I could be mistaken but I don't believe I've ever smelled it outside of the vehicle.
No plastic bags here
Is this a smell that's rather normal for the car to be having? Not sure if I should take it somewhere and have it checked out.

I still get this smell from my car. AC running or not.
It's weird because I can smell it if I have my windows down at a stop light or when I turn off the car and get out. It almost smells like something is burning but the best way to describe it is that is just smells like something is really hot (I know it sounds ridiculous).
Anyone have any clue what I'm talking about?

The G runs hot period. Hot air seeps into the cabin and it's very annoying. It's like the heater is always on... You can feel the hot air too. On a nice cool day, just drive around and sooner or later, you'll feel hot air seeping into the cabin.
It's something you have to put up with... And this is the only car that does this. Maybe every single Nissan/Infiniti does this.. Don't know.
I know my Integra didn't', My s2k didn't either. And my first car, a Camry didn't have this problem.
Also all the cars above allowed me to "recirculate" cabin air w/o turning the A/C on. This cannot be done with the G35. Probably all Infiniti line up.. Maybe even Nissan too.

i had the same problem with my 2006 5AT. If your ride has an aftermarket intake, check just below it close to the throttlebody. theres a hose there that can become kinked and block flow to your PCV valve. If that is the case you can by a hose rerouting coil called a unicoil for a few bucks, slip it over the hose and it will curve the hose instead of kinking it. When i added it, the smell immediately went away. Hope this helps.
Its something that i noticed too. Not only on my G35 but also on my bro-in laws M. I asked the dealership about it and the service manager said its the way the vehicles are manufactured, air circulation and all this other stuff... basically he said its normal on nearly all their cars except suv's.
I never had this problem in any of my previous cars (Honda S2k, Acura Integra), friend's car (old BMW, Acura Legend, Toyota Camry, Nissan Armada), brother's car (Toyota Celica).. etc etc.
Only in the G35.
