Droning noise when driving...

Hi guys,

I recently changed the air filters, cabin air filter as well as put on new tires. I did this all on the same day and noticed after a while when driving there is a droning/humming noise coming 30 MPH and up. I initially thought it was my tires but the noise sounds more air related, either when you are accelerating or slowing down. I checked the install directions for the cabin air filter (TYC cabin air filter) and I double checked that the "UP" side is indeed facing upwards. Thats what it said on the instructions so thats how I placed it. The air filters are very simple to replace so I dont see how I can incorrectly replace them. The tires are brand new and I tried rotating and I even got one changed thinking it had a defect in it but the noise definitely doesnt seem wheel/tire related. Any ideas?

what kind of tires did you get, BFG KDW2 by any chance? my guess is it's the tires, I don't see how the cabin filter would be the cause. Did you check to see if there was anything blocking the inlet? you can pull off the plastic cowl by the battery cover and see the filter from there.

I had the Kumho Ecsta LX platinum tires put on. I am pretty sure I heard the noise on the way to the tire shop, I thought it was just paranoia on my part so I let it go. I am going to check the inlet but is it possible for the cabin air filter to make any noise at all?

highly unlikely it's the cabin filter making the noise. It might be possible that there is a leaf or something stuck in the inlet and it's causing the noise as air passes by it kind of like a whistle. Or perhaps the door that directs air from fresh/recirculate is partially stuck and causing cavitation like sound.
