Car shaking past 80MPH and slow rev problem :(

Ok. I have been reading up on these issues, and everyone seems to have similiar issue with different reasonings. It is very hard to tell what to go get fixed, so I thought I would create my own post with my own issue and see if I can get more specific reponses. I just joined here, and I just purchased my G35 about two months ago!

My front tires popped, and I replaced them with brand new tires at Les Schwab. My back tires have enough tread for another year (says the tire company). When I get on the freeway, my car begins to shake a little at 80 + MPH. I actually am afraid to take it faster because I don't want the thing to break on me.

Two things have happened BEFORE this problem started.

1. Tires replaced
2. Put in z-tube / k&n popcharger

I hear this may be a wheel balancing issue, but I am suprised Les Schwab would not balance it properly.

SECOND ISSUE.

The car DEFFINITELY gets up and goes at its peak torque around 4500-6000 RPMS. However, it seems to take longer than it should to get to 4500 RPMS. If this is a 6sec average 0-60, it seems about 2 seconds getting to 5k RPMS. The issue is only in 1st and 2nd gear, 3rd to 6th just pumps it up fast.

I do know the car has not had its 60-70k mile tune up. 80k Miles on car.

Any advice would help before I go spending a ton of money on it!

Thanks!

Joe~

I would go back and have the wheels rebalanced. However, you state that the front two tires popped? Did you hit something? It's possible the front two wheels are now bent and getting a perfect balance will require replacing them.

As for second question...would help to know year and model G35 you have. Coupe? Sedan? AWD? 03? 07?

Try balancing the REAR tires. If the shaking isn't in the steering wheel, then is usually from the rear or in the drivetrain. If the rear tires weren't replaced, then I doubt they've been balanced unless you specifically asked. I've had to have the rears re-balanced in between replacement.

Front left tire ran ovet a nail and i had BOTH front tires replaced. I am bringing it back in for a rebalance to see if that helps and ill update you. The shake is for the most part in my seat and the pedals and slightly in the steering once i hit 85+ i tried putting car in nuetral at those speeds and it still shakes. So im sure i can rule out the engine. Back tires have about a year left in them said the tire guy

Go ahead and have all 4 tires rebalanced to rule that out.

OK.. I want to update from the previous situation. I had ALL four tires balanced. I had Les Schwab check my suspension system and they said EVERYTHING is fine. Bushings, control arms, rotors, alignment, wheels, everything. The problem went away for a few days but came back.

A few things have happened. On a cold start up, my car ticks like a jack hammer TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK for the first five minutes. I have my engine flushed today and oil changed and the ticking went away.

STILL wobbling past 75MPH.

I am wondering if this is due to engine mount? I want to find out a way to diagnose this accurately without spending a fortune on guessing.

Any suggestions?

You let us know if you figure out a way to fix suspension problems without guessing (albeit educated guessing) and we'll all be in your debt. Haha

The problem with this is that there are SO many parts working together, and while one may seem just fine, its relationship with another's may be on the rocks. Gotta start from the ground up. So what kind of tires do you have and how many miles did you put on them before this started happening?

Stock tires on the back. 80k miles on car. Les Schwab said back tires have another year or so. Front tires replaced two weeks ago. Forget the name of the brand. 225/40 in front 245/40 in back. 19'

It could be those front tires.

What I would do is grab the spare and replace each front tire (one at a time obviously) and see if it still happens. If you switch one and it stops shaking, you've found a defective tire. Tires can indeed be defective.

80k miles on stock rear tires? AND with a yr left on them? Is that possible?

I dont think the rear tires are the original stock.. i think they were replaced with stock. could it be engine mount or something OTHER than the tires? I have been to Les Schwab three times now and they keep saying its all fine

Uhm..not sure. Never heard of an engine mount doing that. Of course that doesn't mean its not so. I'd try the tire switcharoo just to rule it out tho. They can balance it all they want but if its messed up in some weird way it may not show. It'll take 20 mins to switch and test.

Cuz, obviously the tires are the only variable we have to look at right now. It would be mighty odd for a mount (or anything else for that matter), to just happen to go out right when you changed tires. Know what I mean?

Broken engine mounts happen more then you'd think. Always check after a major pit hole.
