Oil cooler leak

I was told by the local repair shop which I trust that the small oil leak I have is coming from the oil cooler. The estimated repair cost is $ 712.00. Seems like a lot but I'm figuring it's not an easy job. It's a 2004 G35X with 141K miles. Just wondering if this is something that needs to be done.

It's a dollar < 10 gasket and 15 minute job that can be done at your next oil change. Even if you had to replace the cooler it's still extremely simple.

Unscrew filter bolt deep well 22MM if I remember right, take out old gasket, put new one in, and retighten it.

If your oil cooler is hosed you might need to drain some coolant, but procedure is same except you disconnect the two coolant lines going into it.

Don't forget to apply a light coat of new oil to the gasket and tighten to 36 ft lbs.

Hate to question a shop I trust on estimates..but need to ask them what's up so I can get it fixed.

Oil cooler could have cracked too, you don't know if it is that or if they are over-charging for a gasket. It happens from over-tightening oil filters time after time.
