I was able to disconnect the larger low pressure line from the condenser but I can't for the life of me disconnect the high pressure line. Yes, the system has been evacuated. I'm starting to bend the support bracket and ac line and my hands hurt from pulling so much on this line. I've tried the blue smaller plastic disconnect tool as well as the larger red tool that goes completely around the line (the red one won't stay in on it's own though). The blue tool seems to click into the bell housing like it's suppose to and I am able to rotate the radiator just to try to break things loose. I don't know what else to do and I don't want to cut the line but I will as a last resort. Any ideas/tricks on how I can get this line disconnected? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

the green seemed to work for me. Now granted I was at the boneyard and I was rough but it worked. Still haven't tried it on my car though

Personally I use the OEM style white rings to get those off. They're the same for all make/model of all vehicles so you can grab one off of another vehicle if yours are broken off. The blue one you're trying to use will not work it needs to wrap almost entirely around the line set and you have a huge gap that needs to be filled. The trick is even pressure all the way around to release the locking mechanism. When you get it depressed properly the line will just pop right off with almost no pressure.

They make some nice aftermarket ones that have a larger base, almost like a handle, to help even out the pressure around the entire diameter.

 

I've tried to use the next size up which is red. It does go all the way around but won't stay stuck up in the bell on its own. I'm wondering if the plastic that slips under the garter spring is too thick on the tools that I have. I'm going to try to make my own from a hose clamp and if that doesn't work I'll buy another set of disconnect tools that look thinner.

 

It doesn't need to stay in place just take tension off the retainer for a moment while you pull the lineset coupling apart.

 

I got it disconnected! I just cut a metal hose clamp and used that. I guess the plastic tools I was trying to use were too thick for the smaller line. You were right, it wasn't that hard to pull apart once tension was properly off the spring. Thanks for the suggestions!
