Air bags

I need to turn off the passenger airbag so that I can transport my Dad, from the hospital to home. He can't have the risk of the airbag going off, due to the type of surgery he had. This would only be for during transport then turn back on. Any help?

In the event of a wreck, it would be safer for him to hit the dashboard or an airbag? Not trying to throw shade or anything, I realize accidents happen and you're just trying to be safe - I sympathize with your situation, but it seems like a strange request.

Regardless - I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in, but I would guess there's a fuse or two you could pull that would disable the SRS system?

Call your local rescue squad
Have your dad push the button to turn on the lights and siren to keep other vehicles away

Your mom's boyfriend
Disconnect the plug under the seat.
Look on your cluster for a flashing airbag indicator to confirm disconnection.

Yeap, disconnecting the "occupancy sensor" is probably the best bet. It's what turns the airbag system on or off depending on if the seat is empty or occupied by someone under 70 lbs. There may or may not be a fuse that's dedicated to the passenger seat only.

I presume this is for a coupe 'cause if it was for a sedan, just have him ride in the back seat !
