2005 Vq35Hr
Good afternoon fellas. I'm a newbie to the g35. I recently acquired a G35 for a good price. However the owner blew the motor and bought a 2008 VQ35HR motor from a 2008 350z. I've recently found out this is not a perfect swap. My question is what route do I go from here. I've seen it's by far too much money to try and put this in. Do I sell it and get the proper motor or what should the next steps be?

I looked at the serial number on the motor and it shows VQ35 but it doesn't list another number. How can I find out what motor this actually is before I actually sell it to find out it's the right motor.

Ok so exactly what vehicle DO YOU OWN. Obviously it's not a G25.
If you own a 2005 G35 like the header note says then your vehicle is equipped with a VQ35DE. In which case it's a fairly complicated swap to put in the VQ35HR motor, easier than a full powertrain swap like going to an LS motor but definitely not just a plug and play engine.

Ok I was just asking to make sure you weren't overseas with a Skyline (sold in USDM as the G35) with the GT250 package which came with the VQ25HR motor.
The HR was pretty unmistakable because of the dual throttle bodies, if your vehicle has the HR swap already that's awesome, it's a better motor in nearly every aspect.

It didnt come already swapped. It came as a shell with the HR needing to be put in. It's a fully assembled motor with wore harness and everything just doesnt have the nissan cover. So to clarify so there is no confusion. I bought a 2005 G35 coupe rolling chassis. The owner also had a 2008 350 a Vq35hr motor that he threw in with the car. It's a complete motor wire harness and every and an ecu. Is this a simple swap since I have the full wire harness and ecu or is it still just as hard to finish?
Sorry if I am confusing people with typos and not knowing exactly what I got myself into.

The hard part is making all accessories work like eazdaskeez said above. Also make sure you have the HR transmission, the DE and HR have different bell house bolt patterns. I thought about doing the HR conversion to my 05' turbo sedan but would be better off and cheaper to sell it and buy a HR car.

Only if you're wanting to build more than about 600 whp, anything past that the DE takes pretty considerable work and longevity will always be an issue.
If this is just a daily or weekend driver that you plan on putting a couple mild bolt-ons then DEFINITELY throw another DE motor in.
However, if your car was factory equipped with the 6MT then you need to find the "rev-up" version of the DE motor which is significantly more rare and usually more expensive. If you have the automatic transmission factory equipped then it takes the regular DE motor, you can google search the differences, they're really easy to identify by the cam actuators, the rev-up is very different looking.
