G35x transmission clicking while deccelerating
So I did my best to scour the threads before posting. And while these cars seem to have lots of clicking sounds I didn't find anyone describing a similar issue to mine. I apologize if there is a thread and I missed it. I'll try to keep this short.
Just was given a 2008 G35x sedan at 229,000 miles. It does have the clicking with the rear axle but this is something different. And it only happens when I let off the gas. Never while accelerating. Which a lot of the other threads seem to talk about it happening while accelerating. It doesn't happen all the time and I haven't had time to notice a pattern for when it does happen yet. But more times than not when I let off the gas it makes this clicking sound that seems to be coming from the front of the car. And in the driver seat it sounds like the passenger side and in the passenger side sounds like the driver side. So I'm guessing its right in the middle and is a transmission issue. It does seem to be affected by pressing the brake and I'm going to check the brakes just to make sure but my first thought is that it's not the brakes. The video gives a pretty good picture of whats going on. You just have to turn up the volume because the sound didn't pick up very well. Its not a super loud sound but very noticeable. The transmission pan does seem to have a small drip coming from the plug but I checked the fluid while the car was hot and it showed plenty of fluid. It actually looked like there was fluid on the stick well above the full line. ( I'm just a youtube mechanic but I've never had too much faith in dip sticks. So if someone has some advice on whether I should be concerned about that level or whether I should even count on the dipstick that would be great)
So that's basically it. Doesn't click all the time, never while accelerating, sounds like its the transmission, doesn't affect driving.
Planning on replacing the trans pan since the plug is corroded and doing the trans filter while I'm at it but don't know how soon that will be.
Here is a link to a video I just took.
(Just watched the video and wanted to note that even when it happens sometimes it will stop before coming to a complete stop)
Sorry to show up first thing on the scene with a problem but I appreciate any help. I love the car already. Hope I can get some miles out of her. Besides this she seems to run strong.
Let me know any questions or if you want another recording. Thanks.
