Shhh! quiet exhaust advice please?

Aloha!

Those of you that read my previous posts know that I got rear-ended last week. Well, as a consequence, I need a new muffler/exhaust. So instead of getting a replacement OEM part, I was thinking that it might be a good time to get an aftermarket exhaust. Hopefully, I can use the money that would've gone to the OEM parts and use it for an aftermarket one.

You guys have any opinions on which one I should get? Also, where is a good shop to buy the exhaust? The condition is that it has to be relatively quiet.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Paul

Fujitsubo Legalis. Sounds like stock,...but a little lower and a tad bit louder only when you are at WOT.

or get the OEM and use the money to get an aftermarket piping, and high flow cats. that will keep it quiet and provide hp/torque gains.

^ no need resonator if you keep the stock muffler. there are 3 guys here that have aftermarket piping and either high flow cats/test pipes. not loud at all. i'd really want to get a custom HKS carbon titanium mufflers exiting the rear of my ****.

Thanks for the responses guys. So I called around today to see what the local shops recommend. Each shop I called, I specifically told them that I wanted something quiet as possible. Sometimes I mentioned that I heard that Greddy and RSR might be too loud. Sometimes, I didn't mention any brands at all. Anyways, I got a lot of contradicting info.

I was told twice that Injen is very good performance and not much louder than stock. I searched the forums and it seems the Injen has lots of problems and is loud. Another shop told me Greddy is very quiet. Huh?!? I thought the Greddy was the second loudest after RSR. Also, another shop told me the 5zigen is probably the quietest of all. This is contrary to the test results from the sport z car review of the exhausts they tested. One shop tried to sell me the HKS steel muffler with titanium tips for $1800 with no pipes. Yikes! I thought I saw one of the forum vendors selling the same HKS with pipes for $1200. One shop told me JIC is very good and quiet as well. Another totally disagred saying the JIC is louder than most.

All in all, I am so confused! I think I am gonna stay stock for now. None of the shops have any exhausts in stock anyway so I won't be able to get it in time for my repairs.

Anyways, time for beers. Thanks again.

Paul

You could always just keep the stock exhaust and replace the Y-pipe. I would gladly offer my exhaust...but I have not gotten word for the new one quite yet. And I think that no mufflers might be a little too loud.

Seriously though, review the forums for the Fujitsubo version. There are some shops (in the mainland though) that have them in stock.

Some reviews of installs and impressions:

https://g35driver.com/forums/intake-exhaust/49682-louder-greddy-sp2-fujitsubo-legalis-r.html

My opinion of course...but if it is the sound only that you are looking for..this might be what you are looking for. Straighter exhaust systems have a tendency to be louder due to less deflection of the sound waves.
