reasons why i do my work myself other than warranty and recall stuff.
i would get legal advice. from the consumer end, that's f*cked up. i cant's say how things should work out, but was there an agreement between your friend and hypers to take his STi to Subaru to get the car repaired? The agreement must be documented with the cause to get the car repaired at a different shop and that hypers will pay all costs. With signatures from the hyper's staff. you can include a witness to sign as well. It's just to cover your **** if they decide to pull a fast one. Sometimes, a simple verbal agreement isnt enough...especially when it comes down to money.

If you need work done to your car, try going to Endless or Sonics.

I second Endless
I also recomend MunkyWurks
I've also heard of some shady things from Sonics. Unless you're a good friend of theirs or have a car worthy of carrying their shops name in a car show, you could be put aside for their personal reasons.

Vakamon a.k.a. speedgear ain't that great. they give you the decent deals but when it comes to service, no way. they sold me an exhaust that had a recall, while i was there Farid called somebody(his voicemail) and asked if there were any problems with the exhaust then turned to me and said it was fine. long story short, i e-mailed injen and they sent me a brand new set of replacement pipes at no cost because there was in fact a defective batch. from my experience, i would only purchase stuff there that had absolutely no chance of breaking i.e. air fresheners. this really sucks cause he helped a lot of other club members out, just not me tho'.

I've had hypersport do a motorswap for me in the past and all went well. It's true that it's hard to get a hold of them on the phone, sometimes they are not in the store and downstairs. You should talk to Travis he's pretty cool and seems to know his stuff. I like to do all my work myself too, but I was just time strapped to do the swap and they did a great job. This is probably the only place I would take my car. If you can't get em' on the phone go down and talk to them, I'm sure they'll help you out.

There best mechanic (IMO) left when it was called Speedgear. I dont like the owner as well, personal issues because he has personal issue with the people I'm associated with.
He's a good person, just he's a shady person to deal with when it comes to business. I wouldnt go there, regardless.
