I know some of you like the whistling effect that the stillen intake makes, but it's kind of getting on my nerves. How do I get rid of this sound?

Put the stock CAI back on.

Yeah by putting in the stock one again, cuz you can't get rid off that whistle sound that's the AIR FILTER...

I've had other cars with intakes and it didn't make a whistling sound. I called stillen today and talked to the tech guy and he told me that it's NOT suppose to whistle. He thinks it's something that goes away after awhile (yeah great tech help). He also mentioned reseting the ECU, and thinks maybe something is leaking, I'll recheck everything tomorrow. But DEFINATLEY this whistling isn't suppose to be happening.

Mine does that too but it does not bother me so ill leave it alone. I dont think you can get rid of it though.

 

Do you think it's the lack of a gasket between the MAS sensor and the plastic heat shield?

I have the Stillen and I get the whistle. I'll tell you, when I first put the Stillen on, I had an issue where my car would not RPM faster than 2200 every once in a while, especially after faster driving. It seems to get stuck at 2200 and I couldn't get it unstuck. The only way to fix it was to pull over, turn off the engine and turn it back on again, then all worked fine until it happened again. I thought it might be something with the Stillen so I checked all my hose clamps and voila, one was loose!!!! I tightened up every screw on the clamps and the malady stopped! But, I DO get the whistle and still after tightening everything down 100%+! So, my conclusion on the whistle is that it's part of the venturi ring that the K&N attaches to. The whistle is created as the air entering the MAF is swirlled in a tornado-type fashion as it enters the air-fuel chamber. I don't think it's caused by any loose connections or leakes since I have none. The whistle sounds cool IMO! It reminds me of the Batmobile when I was a kid!!!

I agree, it sounds like the G is super/turbo charged! I love it!

I just out my stillen on and it only whistles when i hit the gas quickly and let off. Or when I punch it. Some people on here said it was normal and some said it was not. I want to be sure I dont have a problem later so can someone confirm if it is normal and safe. If it matters I put the zpipe on at the same time

I have the same sound. I also put on the 350z tube at the same time. The whistle is common with this type of CAI design. I had the same sound on my 330i when I put on a DINAN CAI. Nothing to worry about. After awhile you won't even hear it any more.

 

Mine whistled for the first day on quick bursts of throttle at around 3k, but has since stopped.

Just installed mine. I heard a faint whistle for about 15 secs then it went away.
