Another satisfied MREV'r

I just put my MREV2 and 5/16" spacer on last night and I'm pleased. It took about 2 hrs to do. The install is not that bad, but I could have used an extra pair of hands to speed things along. I also thought the instructions should have mentioned that I needed (or at least I did) to disconnect more wires and tubes. But all in all it's pretty straight forward. So far no SES lights or anything.

The sound change people talk about is from the car breathing more freely. I had a JWT popcharger on my car for a few days a year ago and it was just too loud for everyday, and the whistle it made was annoying. The MREV2 is like a muffled version of the popcharger growl without the whistle, so I'm very pleased. When driving around town with the revs down below 3k or so it's not that much different from stock sounding, but when you go up past 4k it's louder and more agressive. I like it.

And finally, the car is faster . It revs a little faster from 2-4k but it really comes to life from 4k to redline. This mod is just what I was looking for. I've always loved my G35, but at the same time I've been wanting a little more from the engine. I think this mod has pushed the G to where it should be performance wise.

Doesn't having a popcharger/ztube combo with the mrev help it breathe better?

I got rid of my popcharger a year ago. I just put the MREV on yesterday, so I don't have any actual experience with the combo but yes, I would imagine it would breath better. However, I think I lost some low end power with the popcharger/z-tube combo.

I don't think the other intake options are as loud as the popcharger was, but I just found it too obnoxious for everday use. I do however recommend the z-tube.

Ivory05g, I have the same issue with my Popcharger... I HATE the whistle noise. It sounds like bad brakes. When you took it off did you notice better performance in terms of power? I'm thinking about getting an MREV2 and 5/16th spacer and wondering whether I will take out the popcharger and leave my ztube. I just hate to have wasted the money on the popcharger.

Just sell your popcharger. That's what I did. I think I lost $20-30 on it, but I was happy to sell it.

I felt like I lost some torque down low, but that it picked up some hp up high. I now have the Z-Tube, MREV2, and 5/16" spacer and I think it's the perfect combo for the revup. It deffinately adds some punch to the 3k-5k rpm range and it keeps on going to redline. I HIGHLY recommend the MREV2/spacer combo for anyone with a revup engine, fantastic mod.

many dyno's have shown loss of power from a pop charger. the z tube however has shown improvements. they dyno's i looked at b4 buying my z tube/PC combo were from early 03-04s on these boards. i have since removed the p/c and the car seems to pull harder at low RPM. many ppl state the p/c lost more power and is simply for noise. one of the best combo's is the stock intake/z tube/KN filter...

Just remember, low and midrange power is far more benefical to performance than some gain in the higher end of the powerband.

Follow up impressions:

I'm sure it's in my head, but my car feels even stronger this week than it did last week. Performance across the rpm band has increased. The car is deffinately more responsive at any rpm, and it's very responsive at 4k plus. I've always liked my G, but at the same time I thought the engine was a little behind the image and styling of the car. I think the MREV2 puts those thoughts to rest in my mind. The only thing my car could use now is a TT... but that's not gonna happen.

I think Infiniti should sell the revup coupes like this as a marketing ploy over the sedans. Rate them at 305 hp and 285 trq (or whatever the crank numbers are). Great job Motordyne!

Thank you Ivory05G! Glad you like it.

I just got back from the track while driving in a REVUP Z with the same setup. I certaintly drove it to redline multiple times but I also found the average track RPM @ WOT was around 5600 RPM... (data recorded on Cipher) That puts MREV2/spacer combo right at the top of its average peak power band.

So even while tracking it can't get any better than this combination.

This combination works so well I feel lucky to have been able to develop such an effective NA mod. Developments like this are usually far and few between.

...Or at least until I get the next new mod on the market LOL!

Speaking of which... ...aren't you working on something? Or was that the revised MREV+ that I'm remembering? I just recall you mentioning a while back (1-2 months?) that more was on the way.

Yes. More is on the way. Prototypes of all kinds are in the works. Dyno machine will also be in house soon for lots and lots of development testing.

Where do Beta testers sign-up?

Glad to hear you setting up your own lab as well. Sure wish I was a lot closer to your door.
