What do Y-Pipes actually do? Just for sound or do you get some hp gains?

with the stock catback, noticeable down-low tq loss, minimal uptop hp gains.

The Y-pipe is the most restrictive part of the exhaust. I bought the JIC Y-pipe.. There is noticeable power gains. My set up is JIC Y-pipe and Fuji Exhaust. Once i installed the Y-pipe, my exhaust tone got louder..

Can someone explain in technical terms why the JIC Y is any better than any other? Any why this one shows gains while the others do not? I personally don't see how an aftermarket Y would show any gains (especially if the pipes are the same diameters)

I would think in order for a aftermarket y-pipe to make a difference in power you would need an exhaust from the y-pipe back such as the fuji exhaust...i dont know any others companies that only make the mid pipe and muffler...

I wouldn't waste my time on it, get test pipes instead.
