youll also get different responses on this

a lot of people say wires are wires and the brand doesnt matter

a lot of people also say this is purely a cosmetic mod to dress up the engine bay

annnddd a lot of people say gordgee's grounding gear is the best bang for the buck mod out there - especially if you have a 5at

i personally have a 12 wire grounding kit - i did it both for the engine bay dress up and hopes for better performance (though i had no high expectations)

my review - looks awesome (IMO its very subtle..) as for performance..i didnt notice the g starting up better/quicker (or whatever) but did notice that it is idling at lower rpms. when im idling i cant even tell the car is on. shifting is much much smoother for me. in mm there use to be a huge lag between the time i told it to shift and the time it actually shifted. now there is less of a lag (still some but much better than before)

IMHO i would suggest a grounding kit - but its not one of those mods that is a must. just get it if you have the money lying around..lol

nismo aka sunauto runs about 120-130 i believe
stillen is about the same
gords is more expensive but youll hear nothing but good from his stuff here on the forums
12 wire kit (mine) was 95 and i couldnt be happier with it

hope that helps

edit:
i wonder why this thread is so popular..16 people currently viewing..

i figured this thread would be dead due to its lack of originality..

Yo guys...I was wondering if this is a worthless mod. I would like to raise my MPG and have a deeper sound on the intake.

I just did my 15,000 mile oil change @ the Infinti dealership and they told me the air cleaner was dirty, and if I wanted it changed, I said no. Because I want to buy either an intake or K & N Drop filter.

What do you guys think?

Z-Tube with K & N ?

or

Stillen Intake?

or

K & N Typhoon Intake?

Thanks. ONE.

youre not going to get better mpg cause youre gonna be pumping the gas all the time to hear the sound

if you want sound then stillen or pop charger will be the loudest

IMO pop charger is (very) slightly louder than stillen

dont worry about performance gains cause you wont feel them

you might think you do cause of the sound..but no..just no

lol

I have the stillen Z tube and stillen CAI. I had CAI first and installed the Z tube later. I noticed it was louder. But where I noticed it the most was in 6th gear on the freeway. It seemed to pull a little better in 6th gear. But then agian I could be imagining things.

You're changing a tube for tube, did you truly expect any gain?

+2 million! As soon as I put on the K&N filter and z tube, I kept stepping on the gas over 4k just to hear the car on WOT and my mpg dropped drastically!

After reading all the threads on K&N and what not, I changed my mind and decided not to get it. It lets too much dirt through!! Also, the gains, if any, are so minimal, it's just not worth it. I will stay with OEM or maybe even try that Purolator PureOne air filter.

Also, I want to thank all of you for keeping my thread that lacks originality going (even though I do agree) !

I actually think/thought (whatever) that the Coupe's dump humps or whatever you want to call them in the tube vs. the Z's Straight "clean" tube would indeed make for better gains.

I'll eventually do this even after reading this tread. Weither it *actually* gains me a tiny bit of power of if it's all in my head, the NET GAIN hopefully will be positive.

Anyone agree/disagree?

I've dyno'd before and afters on stock cars for tests on z-tubes. In fact I've done hundreds of tests for most aftermarket products on our cars.

Z-tubes give an average of 3-4HP and 2TQ on a stock car.

Hands down - that's it...dyno proven.

Other than that - you wont feel it - and it's mostly deemed as a noisemaker.

But when put together with the Stillen CAI - it actually puts out almost 6HP and 4TQ....by itself - it's a looser...
