The truth about Z tubes

Ok guys, I read all the posts and heard the different opinions. Here's mine. I installed a Stillen Z tube last night. Really easy install. Do I notice a difference. Performance wise, no, nor did I expect one. It does sound a little louder over 4k and definately has a louder sound when I let off the gas in the higher RPM range. Also, I do hear a little whistle noise once in a while on lower rpms that I did not notice before. I did check all my hoses and they are all tight. Other than that, I am sure I installed a part they may do nothing, but I would not have been happy until I installed it, regardless of whether or not I needed it!!! Sorry for boring you all, I have nothing else to write about!!!

Peer pressure from this board made me buy it, it doesn't do a dam thing, but I like it because I already spent money on it and I'm not going to feel bad about it.

If you read all the other posts, some they are noticeably louder, feel faster, better engine revs, etc. Some say it does nothing. Some say it provides for better gas mileage. The opinions on them are so varied, I am sometimes amazed how people have such different opinions on it.

Did you do an intake in addition to the Z-tube, or did you do it by itself?

I only have 1600 miles, this was the first thing I have done. Cash is not there, I planned on buying a used 2005, but could not find the right color, 6 speed, low mileage and good price, so I bought a new one. The wife is monitoring my spending. She believes I paid $60 for a stupid black tube. But anyways, the plenum spacer will likely be the next mod.

theres hardly and variation in ztube opinions..

generally everyone agrees there is no performance gain (if there is its marginal)

this mod is purely for the sound..

some people may think they feel a little more power but its most likely mental b/c our minds tend to think more sound = more power

just my two cents

I think the change is all in the numbers. I believe the difference between the 350z (301HP?) or G35 (298HP) is the Z-tube pushing the numbers for the Z over the 300HP range. That's probably crank HP and most likely if it has any HP gain, it's so small we wouldn't feel it. Going on a diet and losing 10 lbs might be a better gain

I'm planning on doing the Stillen Z-tube + HFA this fall, for both the sound and the ***hope*** of slightly better MPG. But yeah, it doesn't seem like HP gains are really there.

hahaha generally people that get this mod get worse mpg cause they tend to step on the gas a little harder (w/out even realizing it) just to hear the sound

and therefore they usually get worse mpg..

good luck with that tho lol
