What DO You Think of My Custom Intake Design?? *pics*
i took apart my entire stock intake system and since i already cut off the silence resagnator on the G-tube, and i'm thinking about 1) sealing up the lower resagnator, or 2) after cutting it off, extending a intake pipe down behind the lower grill. it would kind of be like this http://i24.ebayimg.com/04/i/04/c0/23/cb_1_b.JPG
or this is what i've designed. what do you guys think? does intake need some kind of "back pressure" like the exhaust? or is it just the more cold air you can get in there the better??

red is the cutting line, and blue is the plastic peice i would be to cover up the opening.

Depends on how much pressure you could build up from this duct.
If it's more pressure than the OEM RAM duct, the OEM Ram duct might become
an air out let to leak the air that you've collected from this new port, that means unless you seal off the OEM duct, the presure could not be held unless you seal off teh OEM duct on teh left of air box.
If you build up less pressure than OEM duct, it'll be simply become an air vent,
will acually loose air from here that's been collected by OEM air duct.
Since the design replace the drain box under fcatory air box, would Rain get in, would it be too low to the ground & get water in?

that looks pretty good, but i'm sure a lowered G would be in big trouble just driving threw a shallow puddle.
i'm also conserned about doing this because i have the MD 1/2" spacer, and i heard that cold air intakes don't work as well with spacers. i'm thinking about just sealing up the airbox's bottom. like in picture 1.

I did this already, but i ran a 4inch plumbing tube(from home depot
) from under my pop-charger, to the front air-duct. After a long drive if i feel the pop-charger it is deff cooler, so i guess it works. I will be taking this off soon cuz i have decided to buy a stillen air box.

You think that Nissan engineers just slapped the intake system together and stuck it on the car??
The stock intake is engineered very well and is placed where it is to take advantage of a low pressure area created by the grill/hood.
About the only thing you can make better is the sound, as they designed to to be quiet.

Just for fun, I removed the over-radiator intake pipe from the airbox. The sound of the intake above 4500rpms is freaking loud now. Part-throttle low rpm response is fractionally worse. Gains? Doubtful, but the noise sure makes it sound like you're going faster. I did this mod since it's basically like running a POP-style intake.
if ur used to doing this kind of work and u wanna have fun with moding stock parts then go ahead... i didn't want to mess with it... i got a injen CAI.. the filter is right by the air duct in the bumper... ur getting the best air with the filter getting the flow of the outside air.. and a bypass valve will solve all ur water problems

The power duct collect more air and send to smaller area, kind of like
funnel. Stick the cone filter all the way out get colder air but lost the
collection effect of the Air Duct funnel is a trad-off. The air pressure is cooler but with less pressure, that might be why no real gains with Injen from all those
who dynoed it.
