interesting info on theStock g35 coupe intake tube.
I just finished transfering over my utr tube and jwt popcharger from my 350z to my new g and decided to check the airflow of the stock tube at work. I ran it through a flow bench and used some colored gas to get a vew of how the air travels through the tube as opposed to the z-tube. The air flow through the stock g35 tube in the first portion comming off the air box has a higher velocity than the z tube which was due to the smaller tube diameter yet when it got to the box and branch off i noticed something interesting. the air resevoir was creating vortices in the air flow going to the intake and slowed down the velocity. I have not been able to test airflow as from a vacuum so i cannot comment on if these resevoirs are functional but i have a feeling they act much like a resonator does to an exhaust and is used to quiet the car down. One other theory is that these resevoirs hold excess air to be used as a supply under high vacuum conditions. i cannot confirm either of those at the moment as i have not been able to see air flow under vacuum conditions but it does leave some speculation. hope you all find this slightly interesting.
Happy that you're a brighter than average G owner and yes, you are correct. The G35 tube acts as a resonator to quiet the intake. We're supposed to be driving a luxury sport coupe so the noise isn't supposed to be welcomed! Most here in this forum have already replaced it with some type of CAI or Z-tube.
