crawford high flow cats

Is it my idea, or does the car get louder with time after installing hiwhflow cats with stock exhaust? It seems like the car is louder now than when i first installed the cats. i sure like them though...

The insulating material burns off over time causing the note to get louder. In some motorcycle exhaust cans that material is fiberglass which has to be repacked from time to time in order to return to factory decibel levels. Cans packed with steel wool do not need to be repacked but can get slightly louder over time. I'm not sure what the material in the cat is, but it does go through a "burn in" process.

The function of a cat is not to quiet the vehicle although it does alter the sound and quiet the car, but to reduce emissions. It is not packed with a stranded material like fiberglass or steel wool. They have media in them that is supposed to scrub the exhaust. They are filled with a metal catalyst, usually platinum, rhodium and/or palladium. That is why the cost so much.

Not at all. It just enhances the stock exhaust sound. Intake is louder.

If you are driving down the highway at 70 mph in sixth gear and can hear the exhaust inside the cabin at a steady irritating tone, that is drone.
