Okay im going with the 5/16" but which one is better and why...obv the thermal one but why

Motordyne 5/16" Copper ISO Thermal Spacer
This stealth modification adds 11HP-13HP and reduces the effect of power robbing heat soak. The engine cover easily fits and never needs to be cut. With the engine cover in place the engine bay looks completely stock. Use the copper if it ever snows in your area.

or

Motordyne 5/16" Basic Spacer
This stealth modification adds 11HP-13HP and is the simplest to install. The engine cover easily fits and never needs to be cut. With the engine cover in place the engine bay looks completely stock.

just buy the most expensive one you can afford.

It is pretty much the best thing to do in this somewhat isolated case.

No joke.

I guess i can keep my engine cover for the 1/2 correct?
i dont know where you got those quote from..but the engine cover will not fit with the 1/2 spacer

here is the quote directly from the motordyne website:

1/2" Basic Plenum spacer/1/2" Iso Thermal plenum spacer
This stealth modification adds 12HP-14HP and reduces the effect of power robbing heat soak. This plenum spacer can be used for maximum performance enhancement. It also adds a substantially deeper induction growl under the hood.

^^doesnt mention anything about the engine cover fitting

5/16" Basic Plenum spacer/5/16" Iso Thermal plenum spacer
This stealth modification adds 11HP-13HP and is the simplest to install. The 5/16" plenum spacer is fully compatible with all stock and aftermarket strut bars. The engine cover easily fits and never needs to be cut. With the engine cover in place the engine bay looks completely stock.

Here's from there site too explaining the difference of ISO and Copper:

ACCESSORIES
Iso Thermal upgrade with Aramid gasket and Coolant Control Valve

Motordyne Iso ThermalT is the most comprehensive plenum thermal management system available. The upgrade will reduce heat transfer into the upper and lower plenum assembly and helps to reduce power loss as the engine bay becomes heat soaked.

Compatible with any type of plenum stock or modified. Recommended for warm climates generally above 45 ° F.
$50.00

Copper Iso Thermal upgrade with Aramid gasket and Copper Throttle Body Heater

Compatible with any type of plenum stock or modified and compatible with any type of weather hot or cold. Copper Iso Thermal also reduces heat transfer into the upper and lower plenum assembly, but the Copper Throttle Body Heater keeps the throttle body heated to prevent ice formation on the throttle body valve on very cold or snowy days. If it snows in your area use the Copper Iso Thermal to keep the TB heated while still take full advantage of the cold dense air for increased HP.
$110.00

Both will work as far as the plenum is concerned. The big difference between the two is if you use their kit on the Throttle Body Heater.

The copper one is recommended for cold climates like where it snows.

Here's that pix you wanted with no cover and oem plenum:

Don't take offense, but if you had read everything on their G35/M35 web page, it explains everything about the ISO and Copper. This is where I posted the above info from.

If this spacer is your only engine mod, will you notice a decrease in low end torque like you would if you added only an aftermarket muffler?

Spacers...........the final frontier

Now that you've heard from all the experts give Tony
a call at MotorDyne. He'll be able to set you straight
on what can or can't be done......661-993-5111. I
have a 1/2" spacer and the factory engine cover will
"not" fit!
