exhaust backfiring?
exhaust backfiring?
hey guys i just installed a invidia g200 exhaust, air intake and ssv(waiting on turbo kit) but anyway there isnt a gasket leak but the car's idle is way off..(it goes from 800 to almost 200 and then jumps back and forth)should i do a ecu reset?also when the car is slowing down i can hear the exhuast backfiring like gunshots..is that normal or is this all caused by the amount of air being pushed into the system now that the ssv and intake are installed?
also my service engine soon light came on( i have 41,783 miles)is this coincidental or does it have something to do with the mods i installed?any and all advice would be appreciated

Well...you need to check your install of the SSV. You have a vacuum leak.
You also need to reset your ECU to get rid of the CEL once you resolve that leak issue.
Check all the bolts, make sure they are tight, check all the hoses, etc. Check the throttle body bolts...everything.

did you disconnect your throttle body? try disconnecting the battery and pumping the brakes (some people disconnect for 12hrs.)...if you still have the
problem your gonna have to go to the dealership and have them reset it...it'll probably be free because you're still under warranty...

RE: ECU Reset:
There are 2 methods - the pedal method, which for some is a pain to do and the other is the battery disconnect method. The battery disconnect takes about 20 minutes to do, and that includes disconnecting and reconnecting the negative battery terminal.
Disconnect the negative terminal - wait at least 8 minutes, but not necessary to wait more than 10. If your timing it out - just wait the 10 to be safe, so you don't have to do it again. At that 10 minute mark, turn the ignition key to the ON position and push down the brake pedal for 30 seconds - I always wait for a full minute, but it really isn't needed. Reconnect the battery terminal and start the car. Let it idle for at least 30 seconds. It will take it that long stabilize. If it hasn't stabilized on it's own by 30 seconds, tap the throttle 1-2 times and wait another 30 seconds.
After that has been done, you should notice the CEL is out and the car is running fine. Next turn the car off for about 2 minutes...and your done. Go drive it and see what happens.
this process will reset the CEL, put the ECU back in learning mode, and also reset the idle set points. You can go up to Technosquare's web site for the drive by wire calibration instructions - it isn't really necessary, but once you've gone this far, why leave that step out.
