The Integra GSR also uses a huge conical type filter as OEM. I was surprised when I looked at it.

The stock intake will only see about a 10 degree increase over ambient at a stop. Since the MAF sensor is responsible for relaying air intake temp and conditions, the POP style intakes may make for more laggy performance on hot days.

And again how do you come up with "THESE" tests since you have never "OWNED" a aftermarket intake for your car? lol.

i guess if you really wanted a cone filter in the stock box you could get like a hks style filter that fit into the opening and was short enough...

The HKS intake would easily fit and I wish I would have kept mine from Maxima. The downside to the HKS filter is that it must be replaced every 15-20K miles for $18 a pop.

True, I've never owned any aftermarket intake, but the intake setups I've tested open up the stock airbox by well over 100% (removed over radiator snorkel and removed Powerduct). With these setups, the airbox is exposed to engine heat and ingest just as much hot air as a POP setup would. I don't see how this temp testing is invalid.

And was this on a G35? If so where are your test results with pictures and brand names of these intakes? This is the first time I have ever heard of you actually testing a intake on your G35.

So all you have tested is the stock intake. Thank you.

Beyond all these instrumental measurements, stock or aftermarket, you're not going to be able to measure the performance differences of a few hp no matter if it is an increase or decrease in power. This person wants to be assured they aren't damaging the vehicle and the answer to that is no.

Ya' Russ, you need to quit. The clueless one does more than enough to discredit his own info. He opens his mouth! Anyone who's been around cars for more than a few weeks already knows this.

I read the article online about the pop charger (I think you can find a link at the jim wolf site) where JWT tested a bunch of intake designs, including the Stillen air box and discarded it because it restricted air flow (as evidenced by power drop off at the top end on a dyno). Stillen apparently licenses the pop charger bracket or something from JWT.

The dynos proved the pop charger had the best gain (in that article - end of story). With a varis duct type of mod (ram air), I think it's the best you can do for the G. The other thing I found interesting (perhaps in another article comparing CAI) was that the injen CAI showed the most LEAN condition, which makes me think it has the most potential for power if you can tune (though it still lost to a POP in the dyno without any tuning).

How about you not waist your money and spend your money on something more worth while, like a spacer for example? From what I've read, a new intake wont even help your performance, and in most cases, it will hurt it. Note post #20 (I believe, DaveB's 1/4 mile time): People run those times, or better, STOCK. I realize that I don't know the elevation of Shawnee, KS, but those times are not impressive.

Now, if you want to get a new filter for the sound, look and what not, then what's the point of this thread to begin with? Just keep your stocker.

*edit*

Oh, snap.. you already bought one... sweet....
