y-pipe

i just purchased a 03 g35 sedan and i've been researching and reading forums to see what mods i can perform while still keeping the stock feel. I was thinking perhaps purchasing a y-pipe and bolt it on to the stock exhaust if possible. Maybe headers and a y-pipe but definitely keeping the rest of the exhaust stock. i was wandering what diameter the stock exhaust is? thanks in advance.

like i said i'm new to this, had my car for 3 weeks. i don't know much about my car. If there are easy interchangeable mods between the coupe and my sedan like that then please let me know and what i need to do to make it fit. every little bit is appreciated

Do a search for "coupe mid-pipe" and read up on the mod.

As for the Y, unless you are going to get headers, It's not worth it in my opinion.

Again, do some searching around. There is a ton of useful info on this site already

I'd steer clear of any aftermarket y-pipe until someone can post a dyno of a y-pipe actually doing something for these cars. The stock y-pipe is far from sexy looking, but there is absolutely no dyno proof that the pipe is a restriction. All that's been posted on this site and 350Zdriver.com is butt dynos. No legit dynos and no 1/4 mile runs.

If you want quick, cheap, easy power and some good sound then get a Motordyne 5/16" spacer ($220 new), Z-tube ($70 new), and 2005+ sedan midpipe ($100 used). These three mods will net you about 12whp legit HP with no compromise in driveability and a great sound with no drone and ill side effects.

look in the market section. People have them for sale once in a while. If you can't find the 05+ sedan midpipe then get a coupe midpipe. The new sound you get will be worth it.

I sold my 06 Sedan mid-pipe to a guy who swaped out his 03 OEM and he said it sounds better and it def weighs a lot less. I swaped out for a Coupe Middy.....we are never satisfied

Do most of you guys with the plenum spacer have the regular one or the ISO Thermal on? I just went to the market place and search one of the vendors site and it's $290 for the Thermal, does that sound about right? If not please direct me to a more price friendly vendor (lol).

Dave from partshippers.com (marketplace) is selling the 5/16" iso for $250 shipped. He is a great guy to do business with and I wouldn't mind doing business with him again in the future.

PS: Might be worth it for you to buy an inch-lb torque wrench from Sears or something to do the job. The job requires tightening a lot of bolts and there are cases of people who stripped the bolts from over torquing them. I bought one for $65 just for peace of mind when I went to do it. Made time fly when I went to do the job

Dave-
Your combo sounds good and the bump in power sounds nice. Do you have a video posted on youtube or anything where I could hear it at full tilt?
Thanks
