If you have something that shows that a Y-pipe works on this car, then post it up. If not, please save us the drama and excuse yourself from this thread.

That would be me The sound is perfect. I had the coupe middy last year and it just didn't sound right when teamed with the 03 muffler (slightly different than the 05+ muffler). The weight difference is about 17lbs.

I passed on the ISO thermal setup for the following reasons:

1) No matter what kind of thermal barrier you have between the intake manifold and block, once the underhood temps get hot for extended periods, the intake manifold will heat soak.

2) I've never seen any measurable difference in the 1/4 mile ET/MPH between a scalding hot motor and a cool motor.

3) The lower manifold bolts are pretty soft and snap easily. It's one headache to choose to avoid.

The advantages I saw between the coupe midpipe and 05+ sedan midpipe were:

1) The coupe midpipe only has one hanger near the differential where as the sedan midpipe has two. The additional hanger reduces NVH. The coupe doesn't need the hanger because of the different design of the coupe muffler.

2) Sound. The coupe midpipe is designed to compliment a cross-flow style muffler. The sedan muffler is a variable capacity straight-thru unit.

The 05+ sedan midpipe can be purchased from everythingg35.com for about $190 shipped or used for $80-120.

It's amazing what your knowledge of the G could be if you actually owned one longer than a few months....or even had one currently for that matter.

I guess we should give it a few more months when you can't get your check engine light issue solved on your TL, trade for a new G, and then you can flush thousands more bucks down your personal financial black hole on G-mods just because you have a beef with DaveB.

Ahhh I guess someone is whining on another site asking for help now. lol.

I owned a G35 for 2 yrs. Even if it was two different model years it was 2 years.

I have more knowledge on the G35 than Jeff or DaveB combined do. I tested products for vendors and Sport Z Magazine.

Even the ISO SPACER works and others proved it in tests so did I. I had a spreadsheet that showed the differences on a heat soaked car idling and after driving. The differences were night and day. But DaveB says oh there isn't a difference. But he has yet to own that product.

Sad part is, I am not the only person that has a beef with DaveB. Many on this site do.

There are many other mods much better for gains than a Y. I haven't really seen anything definate nor have I really read anything conclusive that the Y really does do anything but make noise.

Headers will make some power but create noise.

Your best bet is probably a set of hi flow cats.

Maybe headers and a y-pipe but definitely keeping the rest of the exhaust stock. i was wandering what diameter the stock exhaust is? thanks in advance.

I've looked over your numbers for the 30 minute before and after runs with the MotorDyne thermal kit. This is what I'm seeing.

percent cooler with thermal kit
Upper plenum 11%
Lower plenum 3%
Throttle body 12%
Intake tube 5%

The results didn't surprise then when I saw the numbers nearly 2 years ago and they don't surprise me now. The thermal kit does reduce temps and I've never debated that it doesn't work, but I do not believe this kit works to the degree people think it does (ie over a 30-50% reduction in temp). Overall, you're looking at a reduction of temp on a upper 60 degree/lower 70 degree day of around 10% or so. For me, it doesn't seem worth the money or effort. I'm sure others would see it a different way. And for my car, I see no measurable difference between running on a completely heat soaked intake manifold and a stone cold intake manifold. What influences my car's performance is the density altitude of the day. DA alone has been responsible for improving my ET/MPH by nearly .2 and 1mph.

i hate to interrupt this debate, but what would you guys recommend as a mild upgrade. i don't want a full exhaust and i have a k&N drop in filter. Should i get a CAI or a short ram? I just need someone to throw me a bone. I just got rid of my VW gti so i know what to do for a turbo car and where to go since i've owned it for 4 years but with this new car i'm completely lost. Perhaps a chip or something along those lines. nothing too aggressive. thanks in advance
