Are heat shields required?

I still get some vibration from my heat shields when I light her up. The sound changes depending on how warm the exhaust is. I have tried Dynamat on the outside of the heat shield. It changed the sound a bit, so I know I'm looking in the right place.

So, here's the question... Can I take the heat shields off completely without risking frying part of the car?

I took the one off in the middle back that protects the driveshaft where the mid-pipe is. No problems ever. I would keep it no if I could but it rattled when i put the coupe mid pipe in. THey did design them for a reason - even perhaps for airflow but I am not losing sleep.

I would try everything you can first. Maybe something is loose.

I can't tell you how much time I have spent chasing this one down... I have Dynamat on everything. I finally put Dynamat on the heat shield just rear of the cats (I figured they were so small, they couldn't be the problem) and that changed the tone of the buzz. I tried expanding foam in behind it on each side - that worked a little better, but I'd really like to remove the buzz altogether.
