Nismo R-tune Headers
Since, nismo discontinued the weldina exhuast, and I'd rather stay w/ the stock exhaust from the cat back, I was thinking bout getting the nismo headers since they are still made available for the Z (same fit for the G no?).
This installed, would make my car not street-legal? Product description says all comfort is sacraficed for performance. Does that mean, that the boost in power causes a much rougher ride and acceleration climb? Will this make my car a hell of a lot louder, or just a little bit?
I already have a couple breathing mods, if I installed nismo headers, would this require me to get a tune or ems?
Can anyone comment on the nismo headers?
Thx

I'm running similar mods, but with the addition of the NISMO headers and Crawford hi-flow cats. Sorry to say that both were done at the same time, so it's hard to know which mod is responsible for what. IMO, the cats likely added as much as the headers in terms of performance. I'd say that the cats also added more volume, but I did coat my headers with JetHot2000, which may knock the noise level down just a little.
Overall, I like the headers. They and the cats are a pretty good match for the MREV2. You'll notice a little more air-noise as well as it passes through the headers and/or hi-flow cats. Getting the headers coated probably helps a bit with this as well, but they aren't as muffled as a big cast-iron manifold.
I don't think the headers are street-legal, but honestly, with the OEM cats I don't think they would be noticeable at all. I'm running the OEM cat-back after the headers and cats and it sounds about like just a cat-back exhaust, only deeper.

I ordered the Nismo headers. I ordered from leeparts btw, there was a special on them--sealed straight from nismo. I should have them by next friday. *** the bee intake for the same price.
Eh, GT-Ron, could you explain what the JetHot2000 treatment was and how you went about doing it? Also, I heard the nismo headers are a little more pita to install then some others (does the engine need to be lifted out to swap out the headers?). About how long would you expect a mechanic to charge for the install of the headers (in hours not dollars)?
I have a arc strut bar as well that needs to be installed. Should the headers be done first or would the strut bar not need to come off to install the headers. Would the header isntall require taking out the plenum and spacer as well? (i would think so)?
Also, do you think my engine setup will be ok w/ the stock cat's and stock exhaust? So Mrev2, 5/15 iso spacer, z/tube w/ nismo filter, nismo headers. I know this is not that much added power, but will the stock 05 brakes hold up for this setup, ot should I think about upgrading brakes as well?
Thx!

If sticking with the OEM cats and exhaust, then you might think about a Y-pipe. Honestly, in addition to the headers I think you should run a cat-back exhaust. Gains and volume will likely be similar to what the cats would provide.
PM'd you on JetHot2000.
I got the NISMO headers because they were the best after Crawford's, but don't require the engine to be lifted for installation. My shop had a hard time, but mainly because there was trial-and-error in determing in which order the bolts/studs have to be replaced. Doing them in the wrong order essentially limited access to another one of the bolts/studs. They would get half in and find access to one limited, so they would start over. Give your shop a heads-up on this and they'll really look at it and figure it out before getting ahead of themselves.
My shop had about 10 hours in all, because of the trail-and-error wastes of time. But my shop also only charges about half the going labor-rate ($40/hr because they're small and it brings in more biz), so I still paid less than most will for the 4-6hr. anticipated installation time.
The install will all be from below, while it's on the lift.
You're right, you won't be adding much power, but the character will change. No brake upgrade is needed for the additional mods, but I've got parts waiting to give a little help to the OEM system. IMO, OEM is good for the street, but I would like a little better bite and firmer pedal, so I've got SS-braided lines and aftermarket pads waiting to help with that.

Their still being sold by many nissan dealers in the U.S. Do you have links or proof of this? I'm not trying to be an ***, but I'd like to know if the $1200 nismo headers being sent to me are prone to cracking. I'm getting them jet-coated w/ extreme sterling--I don't know if that will help prevent cracking issues? On a side note, the crawford cats have been known to crack, but people still use them correct?
I just had strup headers installed at sound performance in Bloomington. Car feels much quicker. If you dont want to spend alot consider strup. Also do what I did and use the search button lots of great info.

^^I get the nismo headers Friday--then sending them to Jet-Hot, got G-Attack Suspension coming in 10 days, arc titianium strut bar in 15 days, and I also ordered nismo high performance head gaskets which should be here in 15 days, and I'm crossing my fingers on a potential weldina cpv35 exhaust deal that might go through (fingers crossed). I'm all set bro.
I used to work for courtesyparts.com which is a nissan dealer in Richardson, Tx. We sold a couple of sets that came back to us because of cracking. Then 3 weeks later Nismo stopped shipping them to us but this was 6 months ago. I would call courtesyparts.com and talk to Brian, or Joey. To find out the news. I never heard them releasing a new revised version. Just giving you the heads up.
