Will my car run lean if...

I have an 03 coupe 5AT. Will my car run lean with just a Popcharger/Z-tube and a 5/16th" spacer? What are some problems that I could possibly run into with the spacer? Also does the spacer change the sound of the engine, if yes, how so?

Thanks

What?

No way bro.

The popcharger and z tube don't do anything to the A/F. (They are just noise makers.) And the spacer will only make a little difference. At least for a normal car, its not until you stack up several mods that it starts to make a notable difference.

Exhaust, test pipes, headers and spacer will...

For his car, the only mod to make any difference is the spacer. And that alone won't make it run lean.

Yes, I would tend to agree with Tony. Get the spacer. Hehehe . . . The combination of the Z tube, Popcharger and the Motordyne 5/16" plenum spacer will produce much more of a growl up front, as you apply the gas. Go WOT and it's music to your ears.

the intake isn't going make much of a difference - if any at all. so cross that off the list.

for an n/a nonrevup engine, a spacer alone should do just fine without adjusting the a/f ratio. but once you really start modding, you're more likely to run lean.

a lot of people assume that by slapping on every bolt-on mod there is that they will instantly gain power when in fact they may lose some. once you start heavily modding, as tony said - exhaust, test pipes/high flow cats, headers, etc. - then you will want to get a tune in order to maxamize the power output of all your mods. but with a spacer only, you should be fine. however, every car is different and will react differently to the same mods - just keep that in mind.

the intake will increase the induction noise that you hear and the spacer will enhance the growl...

+1 for the "growl"... not sure what will happen with OPs setup but when I added 1/2" to Stillen CAI & exhaust (which are already aggressive sounding) the spacer made the motor have a little more grunt (heard at the motor not thru exhaust).

OP you won’t be disappointed in the spacer, it gives notable gains - very good bang for the buck!

wrongz. You wont run too lean that your mods will be detrimental. Of course you will be running leaner than stock, since you are uping the airflow without matching it with the amount of fuel you are injecting. Your short ram intake adds next to nothing so really all you are adding is a plenum spacer, which is proven to be affective and not harmful.

At WOT oem software run excessively rich to cool combustion chambers and increase longevity, reduce preignition and knocks.

Often there is a 10-20% safety reserve so most mods just eat into this reserve for longevity and thus allow the creating of a tiny bit more power output.
