thoughts on intake choice?

Hey all, picking up my DG 05 g35x tommorow from the dealer and i'm looking to make some minor mods to it within the next week.

I've already ordered the JDM Clear corners and am now considering the JWT G35 Pop Charger/350Z intake pipe combo $220.00 SHIPPED, which is offered in the marketplace.

Any comments and or suggestions on that purchase?

And all who have an intake currently would you mind listing what type you have and how happy you are with your purchase? Also, other then rubbing the AC line is there anything else I should be weary of when installing.

Thanks a bunch.

The pop charger and Z tube is one of the best bang-for-the-buck intake kits. I like the Stillen with an AEM dryflow better but it is more $.

i got the oem z-tube and amsoil drop in. the z-tube pop/charger combo is very popular among the g/z crowd. as with any intake, it's mostly for sound.

This is my first post but I have been lurking around here for a while as I am considering adding a G to the stable in the next 6 months or so. I have first hand knowledge of intake kits and drop in filters etc etc and what you say is 100% true with most cars.

In a lot of cases, maybe even the majority, the stock air boxes do their job very well as an all-around performer. If you replace that stock box with a "cone-on-a-stick" you loose filtration efficiency with many of the filters out there, and low and midrange Tq and hp.

The best way to optimize the stock box is with a quality drop in filter. Believe it or not some oiled cotton filters have filtering efficiency that rival the very restrictive stock paper elements.

^^I agree w/ the above poster--while there is consdierable disagreement among aftermarket v. stock intake setup, imo--the stock airbox and scoop does a fine job--its the drop in filter that could be improved (nismo, amsoil, kn, etc). And the air inlet pipe (too restricitve w/ sound baffles and resonators stock) if you have a G--just swap it to a z tube or if you are a baller--maybe even the amuse titanium intake pipe--which just replaces the intake pipe, but leaves the stock airobx and the section w/ the MAF stock. Just my .02

That is true too ^^^^^

any kit that does make power usually modifies the elbow or pipe that runs from the air box to the plenum.

This Z-pipe sounds like a great way to stay "stock" and at a reasonable price and improve upon the stock box.

But you have to be careful in what panel filter you stick on the box as all are not created equal.

I had the Z-tube and K&N drop in filter prior to having the JWT pop charger and z-tube and I really didnt notice any difference between stock and the K&N. However, when I changed out the K&N and put on the JWT PC, it made a remarkable difference in sound and peppy-ness. IMO, the best is the JWT PC and Ztube for sound, as for performance, Id have to say the Stillen CAB and Ztube would be best.

Could you elaborate on which panel filters are better than others? I was just assuming to K&N, but want a little more background before making the purchanse.
