By testing it of course, it pulls no air and is as tight as a drum unless there is a obstruction to the cone filter ie: water. I am sure they submerge the cone to test, when the cone has to much water in it the bypass then opens to allow good air in.There are diaphrams in the bypass valve that are sealed untill the obstruction is sensed.

Looks pretty good and I love the blue. One interesting thing I've noticed is that the MAF tube has been integrated into the intake tube which might possibly make for smoother flow of air depending on how high the sensor now sits in the tube.

Or better yet have a Hummer in your driveway just in case of a flood...
That's funny, I have the Typhoon also, no bypass valve but I did use the Hummer during the rain.
