Injen "whisteling" questions

Ok so I installed the injen intake. Install was easy and everyting is on correctly, and all is tight. WHen I accelerate I hear a high pitched whistle, very similar to my twin turbo when it kicks in. But, sadly I wish i had a turbo on this car. When I really romp on it the whistle goes away and you can then really hear the intake growl. Is this whistle normal?

all input is appreciated.

Thanks,

no, I have dual pops in my twin turbo and have a K&N in my 03 M3. This sound is entirely different. It is not a whooshing or "gasping" sound that normal happens when it is sucking in the air. This is a very very high pitched "whistle" for lack of a better term. It happens when I drive very lightly..when I romp on it and you hear the intake suck..the whistle disappears..the whistle occurs at around 2.5-4 rpm...its not normal

I ran into someone with an AEM the other day. It sounded like a blow off valve every time he shifted. But he has no turbo. He said it was the AEM. I've always known about the whistling but never heard that sound w'out a turbo. Have any of you guys heard that on your AEM or Injen?

I'm getting my nismo intake in late next week so I have no idea how a CAI or short ram setup sounds on a G but with my other intake experience I would say a high pitched whistle sound is rather strange. I would probably be asking the same question. Probably not as dumb as one would think.

The whistling is not strange. It's the air getting sucked through the filter. I like it.

Like I said..Its not a normal sound...and its not the air whooshing in. All my cars have had aftermarket intakes..either something strange is occuring, or this is specific to the G, since this is my first experience with one, and this sound occuring..

FILANJ. Im in Somerset County...where are you?

yeah its a definite high pitched whistle...mine sounds like the clips..but with a whistle at low rpms...i will recheck my connections again...perhaps it is a vacuum leak.

yeah so I just went out to lunch and really listened with the windows down today..since its a bit warmer in jersey today
The whistle happens when the gas pedal is engaged to about 25% engagement, then stops when you begin to hear the intake suck in air. the whistle can only be heard in the beginning of hitting the gas..very strange.

UPDATE: so I called injen, and they state this is not normal, and that I have a leak somewhere. Im concerened that the MAF just screws into the outlet they provide with no gasket between the two. Im gonna assume air is escaping from there...other than that ..everything else is air tight.

Despite what Injen says, this is totally normal. My friend's TSX with Injen does the same thing. I've had my Injen for almost a year now and its whistled since day one and honestly when i got my MREV2 and spacer my whistle got louder and more noticable at different RPM. What it is, the reason you hear it at slight to mid throttle is because its the air whistling off your throttle plate and the sound is producing out of the pipe. When the throttle is all the way open there is nothin for the air to fight with anymore so it has free passage to just enter the engine. Most intakes on larger engines will whistle due to the high volume of air. when my brother had a K&N on his 05 F150 that whistle was louder than my Injen's can ever be.

and to add to that, i heard a 350z with injen that sounded very similar.

does it really sound like whistling? I know it would be the air getting sucked through the filter but it still strikes me as strange. I dunno, I guess I'll see once stupid intense motorsports finally gets my CAI to me lol.
