Sold Injen, now what?

Please advise as to what I should do. I heard that the injen intake didn't really make the horsepower that it claimed for the 6mt sedan. I sold it, I no longer have it, what do I do now?
The 350z tube along with a K&N drop in?
Nismo intake? what Nismo intake.

Gurgen help!

Thanks. Jon Lesher

Since you chose to not believe in long pipe CAI gains, it would make no sense to get another one no matter the make. Sooooooo, get the the Stillen CAI and add on this 350Z intake part

Re: Sold Injen, now what?

Well, I bought a POP-Charger yesterday. Hope to have it next week. From what I've been reading, with JWT's new heat shield design, this is the way to go. I'll let you know.

Re: Sold Injen, now what?

Well kookoo, the reason I really sold the injen is because one day on my way to a g35 meet I got my car washed and I hydrolocked the engine. I couldn't get it over 2300 rpm's. It was like it was bouncing on a rev limiter of some sort.

GSedan35, I am a believer of the horsepower that it made (sort of). I mean I know that it made horsepower, however, I am not sure that it really made the claims that Injen said it did. I have been a supporter of CAI, but when I injested that water from the car wash (i mean, its a CARWASH!!!! I didn't even go through any rain or puddles and this hydrolock happens, well that's not for me!) it really scared me like as if my car broke. From what I see, maybe the NISMO would work better, but I don't know.

Sorry to let you Injen fans down. I have owned Injen since 1999 on my 240sx (which it is still there). Some applications work and some don't IMHO.

Re: Sold Injen, now what?

Did they replace your motor? It sounds more like the MAF went out. If you hydrolock your motor, internal parts usually break and the motor won't run at all because water doesn't compress like air. When the air doesn't compress and something else has to give (rod) usually your motor dies a rather nasty death. Sounds more like your MAF died and the car/ECU went into limp mode. Well that is if it was still running (probalby way rich) and only revving to ~2300rpms.

Re: Sold Injen, now what?

JustinP10, that is exactly what happened. So you don't think that I hydrolocked the engine then? But rather my MAF? When it happened I pulled off of the road into a parking lot and turned off the engine and opened the hood to let the sun hit the engine. After 15 minutes or so, I started it up and all was good.

Do you think that some water got on the MAF?

Re: Sold Injen, now what?

I took off my K/N Typhoon too. I saw a 7 HP drop with the Crawford plenum. Put the stock back on and feel the difference. I think the stock intake is VERY good as a true CAI and is tuned to the rest of the motor. All I did was put in a K/N panel filter and it works great now and feels stronger than the aftermarket kit. I will dyno next week to see where I am with the Stillen dual exhaust, Crawford, and stock intake piping.

Re: Sold Injen, now what?

If you hydrolock the engine, it bascially fills the cylinder with water, which doesn't compress like air. So when the piston tries to go up to compress the air, it can't. Something else usually gives (breaks) and your motor won't run at all. At least that's always been my understanding of it.

The symptoms you described sound exactly like a bad MAF sensor. The way the motor doesn't rev because the ECU goes into limp mode, etc.... You probably just got a little bit of water on the MAF sensor which caused it not to read properly, or maybe a short in the harness somewhere from water, if it fixed itself, it definitely wasn't hydrolock.
