Re: What Intake should i go with?

Could you possibly give me a link to the HKS filter, and would i be able to attach it to the stock air tube, or the Z tube. Another thing, how would you clean this filter, im thinkign you would prolly have to buy a new when it gets dirty..not sure if i like that idea.

The HKS filter is not like the K&N where you clean it over and over. You pull the filter apart, and take out the filter element, then replace it with a new one. Very easy to do. New filter elements cost $12. Change it every 15k-20k.

Here's the site guys. www.hksusa.com

I've had my HKS for over a year, and have been really happy with it.

the filter is called the "super mega flow" BTW. HKS lists "kits" but if you call one of their dealers, you can buy just the filter. They come in an array of inlet sizes, and yes, I had my filter on my stock air tube. Still gave me a nice hp gain.
Edited by nightwalker on 02/14/04 11:58 AM.

Tory,
The Sitllen has much more aggresive sound than sotck, especially when matched with the Z-tube.

Haven't tried it yet, but I think you can fit the JWT pop-charger inside the stock air-box w/little or no modification. I may try it myself as soon as weather permits. Let me know if you do this...

It looks like you will need to gut the air box some, and I still don't think you will enough clearance on the top side.

Re: What Intake should i go with?

I just had the JWT Pop-Charger installed over the weekend. No need to use the factory box. It still utilizes the front "small" air scoop to take air from the front to the filter, and you still are using the same tube taking air from the bottom up. You just have a bigger opening for more air to get in the filter, then ofcourse to the engine. I am also utilizing the Z-tube. That other one was ridiculous waste of money with the big "drop/top" sound baffle. The JWT Pop-Charger also uses a Heat shield that works rather well. I just had to take out all the "extra" stuff. I was going to buy the stillen b/c of the factory look, but for the same horsepower why not save a $150.00. I ran it on the dyno this weekend, 4th gear. And without the mods was about 200hp at RW. I thought this was really low, but this was a MUSTANG Dyno, and not a DYNO Jet so this puts in factors such as wind resistant and everything else you could think of to try to get real time street HP. After the Borla Exahust and JWT Pop-Charger and Z-tube I increased the Torque by 16lbs and HP by 14.

Re: What Intake should i go with?

This was a great thread. However, I did not see anyone mention that a CAI like the K&N Typhoon or the AEM being able to creat a little more HP than a short RAM. My understanding is that the colder air from the front bumper air dam as opposed to the warmer air from the engine compartment makes fro better gains. Also I heard that the aem has a proctective coating that prevents heat from being transfered from the engine compartment to the inside of the tube. My question would be how much of a diff would the much cooler from a long tube CAI make vs. the Z Tube/Pop Charger combo make? I'm not talking $$$ here just pure performance comparo. I do think the Z-Tube and JWT sounds great! Just haven't heard the AEM, K&N, or Nismo yet.

Re: What Intake should i go with?

I don't think it would make too big of a difference, a few degrees of cooler air from the bumper or cool air coming in from the Air dam won't be too big of a difference in normal driving situations. Although i would like to see a dyno comparison.

Re: What Intake should i go with?

ozracer, are you worried ur parents find out? because it seems like u dont want it too loud and u want it to look the same as stock. haha, i felt the same way too though. but i'm probably a little less worried than u if that's the case. but yes, go with the popcharger, it sounds real nice. if for some reason u dont want to make ur car sound more aggressive, just dont punch it. but once u hear the whistle it gives out, u wouldn't want to keep it under wraps =). it's great

Cloudkid, have you happened to check to see what that setup does to you MPG's. I know, who gives a shiite? But I'm a little disappointed in my MPG's.

Also, you said +16 ft/lbs. Was that throughout the band, or just in increase in peak torque?

Re: What Intake should i go with?

I started out with just the K&N drop in filter. Did not see, feel
or hear much difference. Then added the 350Z intake duct.
Man, that is a must have mod. It makes the G growl. A very
nice growl, that is. Then I replace my K&N drop in with the
Stillen HiFlow AirBox. Woe... Now the growl is replaced by
a howl at 4000 rpm and up. It is absolutly fantastic! My
wife likes it also. Go figure!

350Z intake duct..........................$80
Stillen HiFlow AirBox....................$260
The music thay make togeather.....PRICELESS!
