This is an easy one.

Buy stillen
Install stillen
Drive car
Sell stillen exhaust for "$500.00 plus trade of OEM exhaust" in 4 years
Return Vehicle

Stillen hand down. The only question is: what effect would it have on the lease....

Would the Stillen exhaust be a problem with a leased car?

I can't believe the OEM exhaust costs this much and the price doesn't even include the cats. Can you guys please try to give him some advice. Thanks in advance everyone!!

It is not a 4 hour job. 2 Hours max. Truly 1.5 hour(s)

Option 3:

Go to another shop or a muffler shop like Midas.

They can fix/replace the stock exhaust with similar (quiet) aftermarket parts for WAAAAY less than either of those two exhaust options.

IMO, v6 plus loud exhaust = big no no.

If your friend WANTS a louder exhaust, get the stillen. But if not, go to a muffler shop. $3k or more for exhaust is ridiculous. You can have a CUSTOM exhaust made up for less than a grand installed.

This is really all that needs to be done, why is this thread even going further? Its not f*cking rocket science. An exhaust has NO EFFECT on a lease? What possible effect could a damn exhaust have?

And how is the car not driveable? Not having an exhaust doesnt deem a car undrivable. I say he purchases the exhaust from them, takes his damn car back, and takes it to an independent shop that will charge him 1.5 Hours laber @ 75/hour. End of thread.

Are you a senior citizen? The Stillen exhaust on the VQ35HR sounds simply sick.

Not exactly. The stock exhaust is a bit quiet but it's much smoother sounding than the Stillen cat back setup my dealership threw onto one of the cars here. When I heard one of the guys rev the car it sounded like broken glass. NASTY.

The G37 exhaust note on the other hand...now there's a sexy sound if I've ever heard one. The V36 Sedan has a very smooth sounding exhaust note, but oh how I wish our V36 4 doors sounded like the V36 Coupe.

some places it is in fact illegal to drive without mufflers (like here for instance).

Not quite (I'm 27).

I'm just more of a muscle car exhaust kinda guy. v8's sound good with loud exhaust. That's about it (there are only a few exceptions).

The loud buzzing sound at high rpms and drone while cruising that come with exhaust on a v6..... I'm not a fan.

In fact, for the most part, I think that 6 cyl's with loud exhaust sound even worse than 4cyl cars. One of the WORST sounding loud exhausts I've heard was on a Porsche 911 turbo.

FWIW, I haven't heard the stillen on an 07 sedan yet, so I can't be completely sure that my generalizations will stick. But, I have heard the exhaust on a 350z. It sounds decent..... till you hit high rpms.

The stillen exhaust definetly has some rasp to it, some people aren't bothered by it, some are. Thats why sound is subjective

It just sounded unpleasant to me. Like the Stillen guys sat around and went "since we can't figure out how to make it sound smooth, we'll just make it really loud and obnoxious." It had a real crass sounding "raaaahhhh raaaahhhh" sound to it. Did not like it at all. The intake on the other hand sounded good from the inside of the car. I got to hear it before they threw on the cat back. Pretty aggressive "whooshing" sound. Car wasn't any faster, but it did sound good.

As others have said, it's purely subjective. I didn't like it at all but I'm sure others will disagree.
