G35 Tore Exhaust...More issues

My friend that messed up his exhaust (https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...65#post2343065) ordered the Stillen exhaust and the dealership was attempting to put it on. Now the dealership is saying the Cats and the exhaust manifolds are bent. Can anyone think of anything he can do. The dealership (on top of the stillen exhaust) says he has to get two new cats (900 each) and two new exhaust manifolds (500 each). Thanks in advance

If you see my other thread the dealer quoted him 3000 for the parts. This means the G35 exhaust part for part costs ~7000. How is that even possible?

Well that is easily possible.

Just as a references.
(No, I would never pay that much directly from dealer )
My Honda si's
Exhaust manifold ; $300 +
Cat ; $1600 +
Midpipe ; $150
Axle back ; $250.

You are looking at 2300 +. for damn si at dealer if you were to buy parts directly from stealership.

Now look at, g35 having extra exhaust manifold and cat.
+ dealer mark up, ridiculous infiniti parts, Labors.

Just swap the exhaust only and get it over with at home.
Don't try to get it fixed at dealer.

They are trying to rip you off because car is leased.

Dealership parts are always overpriced. That's how they make a lot of their money. Find a set of used cats and a set of used exhaust manifolds....can probably get both for like $200 total.

good luck finding used headers.

If he does have to replace them, take some pictures of them while they're off

We work ALL the time so we won't have the time to do it ourselves (nor do we have the skills). Its hard to find used parts for the car because its an '07.

Understood, but if you don't wanna pay $3k in parts + labor, you'll find the time...

Seriously though, going with straight OEM replacements makes aftermarket look cheap. I don't know where you can go now because they already started working on it, but if the car was driveable -- even if just to take it home -- I would have parked it and gotten the aftermarket parts, then gone to a mechanic. Even a decent muffler shop that doesn't know what they're doing would cost you half as much in labor.

And it's hard to believe that it's as bad as they're saying -- the whole thing is tore up from the mufflers all the way to the manifold? WTF did your friend do, put the car on a lift and start doing pull-ups off the mid pipe?

Seriously though... either he's gonna have to eat it and just pay whatever they want -- hey, next up they'll find the engine is ****ed! -- or just replace the parts somewhere else. Even if he's not mechanically inclined and doesn't have the time going to a good shop means probably $1500 tops.

Manifolds? You're SOL.

But, for the rest of the exhaust, go aftermarket, or go to a muffler shop.

$1800 for cats? Give me a break..... you can get universal aftermarket cats for like $100 each.

Have you checked with Stillen, they have headers/cats and way cheaper
than the stealership. Or call Riverside Infiniti, they have reasonable prices.
1-800-919-8130 Good Luck!

Idiot mistake #1

Work some more to pay for collision insurance. I have no sympathy for your friend (you).

Damn... can't we all just get along?

But seriously... I don't know how people drive around uninsured, under-insured or get only liability. Insurance is a scam -- we all know that -- and the companies hate to pay on claims.

But I'd rather pay extra and have it when I need it, than something like this happens and I need it but don't have it.

My friend got hit in the back and he rammed the guy in front, and he only had liability. Next thing you know he's taking people to court and having to deal with that huge mess.
